Navigator's verandah on the Dream

We are Disney veterans but have never been on a cruise.

We are trying to decide on whether to choose the Navigator's Verandah or to upgrade to the larger room and glass verandah. The price difference is about 700.00 for our family of 4 for 3 nights.

Any info you have will be helpful as we are just about ready to book.

That seems high for a 3 night. 7a to cat 4x I assume. Some cat 7a's have a plexi-veranda fwiw. Have you seen these exterior photos with cabin numbers labeled?
If you get to port in am, you could try for a upgrade then.

Also, how much time are you gong to spend on the balcony, or for that matter, in the cabin on your first DCL cruise? Over 3 nights?

Of course I'm all for larger cabin, but .... see above.

I personally would not pay $700 more for a regular verandah for a 3 night. Our family really enjoys the category 8 which has the large portholes that my kids like to lay in. We booked a category 7A (nav verandah) and were upgraded to a 5B and while it was nice, I would not pay $700 more for it or any of the other verandah categories.

Forgot to mention the 7a are "generally" the balconies next to the large porthole cabins in those linked photos. They have obstructed views that vary a bit. HTH

My choice

I would have to go with the verandah and sitting area. I love to sit out there and watch the ocean slip by.

depends on the ship

the navigator veranda is different depending if you are on the classics (magic and wonder) or sailing the newer ships (dream or fantasy). The new 7a are not that obstructed and still give you an outside sitting area. here is a link to a pic of a typical 7a on the dream or fantasy

On the new ships they flank the porthole window cabins, so the white obstruction will be on one side of your veranda or the other. I just sailed in a 7a on the fantasy and found it nice. The "nook" created by the obstruction gave a buffer against the wind and it was nice not having a neighbor on that side and the view was still plenty. I liked it MUCH better than the 7a on the Wonder.

here is a typical navigator on the classics the shape of the window is either round or oval but the general layout is the same... you have to stand at the porthole to see, but it is more private than a typical veranda which is nice.

We've booked 7A Navigator Verandah GTY rooms twice for the Dream/Fantasy.

The first time we were assigned a 7A Navigator Verandah room. Remember, a Navigator Verandah room means you could be assigned a verandah with an obstructed view or an undersized verandah. We were assigned an undersized verandah.

This is the size of our verandah:

It's a 32 sq ft verandah. Now, we didn't really mind. There were only 2 of us so we didn't need that much room on our verandah. And we loved the aft location! But I know a lot of people are disappointed with getting a room with such a small verandah!

I'm not sure if you're booking GTY or not? But the room numbers for these small verandah rooms are 5188 and 5688.

The 2nd time we booked a 7A GTY room, we were upgraded to a category 5 room.

Now, since there are only 2 of these small verandah rooms on the Dream, the odds of getting one of them aren't that great. But it can happen! (It happened to us!) And it is something to consider when thinking about booking a Navigator Verandah room!
