Hello from Canada (soon to be Alabama!)

Hello! I am a long time lurker, but a first time poster. I am a Canadian woman who is engaged to an American man. At this point we are done with all the technical immigration stuff (yay!), and I will be moving down there mid December. I will be entering the States on a K1 Fiance Visa and part of the requirement is that we must be married within 90 days of my arrival. We have decided to go to Disney and do their “Memories” wedding package. With all the stuff that we had to do for the Fiance Visa, having a pre-built package was very appealing to us, especially with me being in Canada and my fiancé being in Alabama (makes it kind of difficult to check things out before the wedding, and I did not want to wait until I was down there to start planning since we have such a short time frame before we need to have the ceremony). Also, from the very beginning, we both wanted to have a very intimate ceremony, with just the two of us, so the “Memories” package really is perfect for us.

With that being said, the biggest selling point for me was actually Disney’s incredible reputation when it comes to accessibility. My fiancé is a full time manual wheelchair user, and after the things we’ve seen when it comes to the ignorance of some people, I wanted to make sure that not only would the location of the wedding be completely accessible (which is hard to do when you can’t check it out in person first), but also that the staff there are well versed in working with people with disabilities. Even before I started dating my fiancé, I was aware of Disney’s reputation of excellence when it comes to accessibility (I have been to Disney a couple of times, but my fiancé has never been), which is actually the reason why I looked into their wedding packages initially. Then, once you factor in the accessibility of the hotels and the theme parks, it quickly became the perfect choice for us (wedding and honeymoon in one location – woo hoo!!!). Needless to say, there is still a great deal of planning left to do, and I will likely be posting quite a bit in the next few months. I would like to thank everyone in advance for your help (just reading the boards has already been an invaluable resource), and I look forward to becoming part of the community .
