Just returned...final thoughts
Hi Dis boards,
First, thank you for all of your advice. Our cast was myself (35), husband (36), my mom (55), son (4), and our daughter turned 3 while we were there. I have not been since my mom took my brother and I ages ago so I consider this my first trip. We stayed 8 nights at BLT.
For those who are on the fence about taking small children, go and do it!!! My daughter loved meeting everyone and her face just lit up. My son loved all the rides, especially haunted mansion, thunder railroad, and pirates. We had a ball together and it was wonderful to escape the real world with them. My only advice would be, plan and use these boards, then throw it out the window when you get there and let your kids guide you. My daughter loved the tea cups so we did them over and over and both loved those silly cars in tomorrow land so we changed our plans to ride them multiple times.
We loved BLT! What an awesome place! The weather was warm the first part of the week to swim and we used it everyday. We got up for rope drop, left to swim, and went back out in the evenings. We all needed to leave the parks because they started to feel crowded ( for us). Super Bowl Sunday night at Epcot was awesome and basically empty. Also the magic kingdom on Wednesday was empty and my son rode thunder railroad 5 times with no wait. Other days were worse and I followed Josh's advice by the way.
So, I was a newbie and love technology so I was excited about fastpass + regardless of what everyone said on the boards. Well... It sucks at every park but magic kingdom. First off, the wifi does not work in the parks I had to turn it off and use cellular connection. I have verizon and it worked well. We wanted to change our fastpass selections at animal kingdom at 11 am because it was hot and we just wanted to do a few things then leave. Almost everything was gone. It also is hard to get just one changed and I lost my expedition Everest when trying to change it up. When I tried to rebook it right then it was not available at any time.
It worked well at magic kingdom the 4 times we were there and loved using it there. Otherwise the system and site need some serious help. The site crashed all the time in every park but magic kingdom. I was thankful we could use rider swap ( my daughter is only 34 inches), otherwise I am not sure we could have done certain rides again.
The rider swap cards were good for all week so went to HS one day and used fastpass there and hopped to Epcot and used the rider swap for soarin and test track. They need to allow for park hopping with this system.
Also I noticed that the wait times for the character meetings would be way off. Cast member told us 5 minutes at animal kingdom that then turned to 25 once in line and we left at 45 minutes and the cm said they just had too many fastpass people coming. The best spot to see the characters was at Epcot where we went multiple times and never waited over 5 minutes. We also met the stepsisters and stepmom multiple times at magic kingdom and they were amazing!!
We were pleasantly surprised by the food. We enjoyed tusker house, ohana, spice road, the bar in Italy, teppan edo, be our guest for lunch ( fastpass), Columbia harbor house, Pinocchio village, Cinderella's royal table. Also enjoyed a margarita from Mexico and school bread from Norway. My mom and I went out one night and had tapas and wine at spice road then went to the Italy bar for a cheese plate and prosecco. It was a wonderful evening.
The only places we really did not like was the contempo cafe at contemporary and trex.
That sums up the trip. Let me know if you have any questions, but it was a wonderful trip. My kids did not want to leave yesterday and I didn't either! Now off to laundry
Thank you again for all of your advice and help!
