Urgent need advice on MK day please!

So we're fortunate to be in the area for 2 weeks so we can spread out our days and hopefully not hit a lot of crowds. (this is important as my DH is not a fan) I know I know tragedy!!!

We (me) lol - REALLY wants to start with the magic of MK as it will be my kids 5th birthday.
However Sunday is a non-recommended park day. (Evening EMH and we're not staying onsite) - we arrive on Sat afternoon.

Can you please weigh in on the following:
Would you:

1. Start your MK day on Sunday, if it gets too much leave in the afternoon as Sunday night has EMH. I would just wander and soak up the atmosphere and not really do much else?! See what we might like, pop on a couple of things with shorter lines, than I would then schedule another MK day on Wed when the park is at another low recommended day and do the rides and what we wanted to do. And then we'd have a 3rd MK day the next week.

2. Do Chef Mickey's on Sunday and stay away from the parks until Tuesday when the crowd dies off at MK?! And just do CM and DTD on Sunday instead?

Keep in mind I have 2 weeks to fit it all in! (no hoppers for us though!)

I need to decide ASAP because I need to make our ADR's ASAP for Chef Mickey's!

Thanks!!

If Chef Mickeys is open Sunday I would do that instead. Plus I wouldn't start with MK anyway. I think from a kids perspective it's the "best" park so all the others might be somewhat of a letdown. Why not spend the first day lounging around?

What time of the year are you going? I have been to MK during the weekend when they had EMH during slow periods and the park was pretty empty.

When we go for two weeks I space the days out per the crowd calendar, etc. Why go sub-optimally? I'd do chef mickeys and wait for MK.

We will be there at the end of Feb - the week after president's week so it's not predicted to be as busy ...

I will be lounging around the first day. We arrive Sat at 1030am.
So that day will be spent shopping for supplies and hanging out at the pool.
It's also their actual birthday so we will be having a cake at the house and dinner.
They are just super excited already to see the mouse it's crazy! lol
All they want to do is meet him and hang out with him. I can't deny them that for their birthday
even if MK IS the best park we will be there 3 or 4 times

Does Chef Mickey's have any availability? It is free dining period, so some reservations will be hard to come by. Book now (if available), decide later. No penalty...just need to cancel 1-2 days in advance (some ressies have 2 day cancellation, pre-pay, forget if MK is one of those).

Since Sat is their actual birthday, I would try to plan something special for that day instead...like rent Sea Raycers at the Contemporary, go to Hoop de Do Musical Review (great fun at that age), etc.

If you do MK on Sunday, get there for rope drop...you will be able to enjoy twice the rides vs. arriving later in the day (for the same number of hours).

Have a blast!!!

****sorry, just re-read your OP, and thought you were leaving IN 2 weeks. I am with the other posters, book a pre-opening ADR on Sunday at MK, either Crystal Palace or CRT (depending on budget). That way, you won't be trampled in the AM with the rope drop crowd, and will enjoy the park in the morning. If it is late EMH, then those folks probably won't start arriving until later in the day...in order to stay late.

If you have park hopper passes you can always start out at MK. If it's too crowded you can move to another park. We always go to MK first (even if it is only for a hour or so) "it's not DISNEY until you see that castle" as my DISNEY buddy would have said. RIP Bill

We have been there during that time. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. I think the crowds won't really be a problem. We usually stay away from MK on weekends too since it seems alot of locals go but I think you will be fine.

I would try to get an ADR at Crystal Palace before park opening on Sunday (unless the park opens before 9). If you can get in before the crowds do, you can walk down Main Street with it almost empty. Enjoy a great breakfast at CP, meet the Pooh characters, then head into the park, meet Mickey, do a few rides.......just be there as long as the crowds are reasonable.

I just wouldn't be fond of their very first dose of the MK being an uber-crowded Main Street where they could barely see the castle. A pre-park opening breakfast would take care of that.

If there are no early times available, keep watching. Those come and go all the time.

Why not do a dinner at Chef Mickey the day of the birthday ? Pick the latest available and arrange for a birthday cake If that doesn't work for you being day of arrival I would then do Sunday Sunday you could go to MK and then do a meal late afternoon/early evening at Chef Mickey ?

I always start at MK. I don't care what the crowd calendar says...
