What ages can run? We have two 8 year olds that want to run.

They can run it but not "officially" with a bib number and such. It's ages 12 and up.

Also if they're under 12 they won't get a Mickey medal at the end, however I've heard if you ask real nice sometimes they bend a bit on this.

It's free to run. Look in the navigator for Castaway Cay day. It will tell you where to meet and when to sign up. It's not an "official" run and while there is a gigantic clock/timer there, they don't chip time you or keep track of times. Think of it more as a fun run.

My children ran the 5K and it counted towards a race for their Roadrunners Club last October 2012 on the Fantasy. Their ages were 10 and 11. They received a bib and a medal for finishing the race.
My son (10) ran it with me in January 2011 on the Magic - he was given a note card thanking him for running and a water bottle. I believe it ill depend on the cruise and which CM is heading the activity up?

I posted a pic of mine in an earlier thread. Let me see if I can dig it up.

Edit: Found it (that was faster than I thought I'd be able to find it)

Georgia I've heard they're accommodating but "officially" the age is 12 so it's good to know they at least do something for the kids. Someone pointed out before that most normal 5k's don't give out medals so it's kind of special that they do this. Even neater for the kids!

The age is 12, but it is more of an honor system. They don't scan your card or check our id, so I am sure you can run it if you are under 12. We were told on the boat that it is a liability issue, so they probably really don't care too much if you lie and run the race.

Thanks for posting this!

My DH really wanted to run it for the medal but I think this is the same one they give out for winning trivia, so we're gonna try a trivia session instead.

He has me google the Run Disney events to see what the medals look like before deciding whether to run. Pshh. Men.

There is absolutely NO comparison between the simply amazing medals for the half marathons and marathon runDisney puts on and the (sorry but it's true) piece of cheap plastic you get at CC. runDisney has some of the best medals out there!

Not for Nothing, but that "cheap piece of plastic" is something that many of us first time runners are working for. We can't all be marathoners and even if we were you have to start somewhere. It may mean nothing to you, but as someone who has never run it is a symbol of accomplishment and a stepping stone to bigger things. It is going to be my own piece of

I agree that the RunDisney medals are among the best. However, I love running and participate in many marathons and races. My favorite medal of all is my plastic Castaway Cay 5k medal When I look at it I remember the beautiful island and wonderful vacation with my family. I know it's plastic, but it's definitely worth a lot in my book.

Oh it's a fun memory piece for sure. (I also have several from various half marathons and also Chicago as well as random 10Ks...but the rD ones are the best!!)

My comment was directed at the poster who was seeming to compare the CC one to the runDisney ones.

It's nice because it's actually rare that 5Ks even HAVE medals...especially if the race is "free".
