why does the price keep jumping and categories keep appearing and disappearing?!?!

Looking for a week in May 2014

And this week alone - 1 day an ocean view is available and then the next day it is not, then the next day it is again?!!? So the rock bottom price for my family of 5 keeps jumping $500 depending on the day?!

why is that?

And is it safe to assume that what I am offered today is the lowest it will be? Does holding out to go down exist or will it just go up from here!?!?

I know its a game of chance - just want to be better educated on the game!

thanks so much!

1 thing to keep in mind is if you are going as far as clicking on the room even though you don't book it, it does "lock" the room up for a short time. Prices almost always go up, so if this is a room you are definitely wanting I would book now.

Huh I check mine every day for the 5/5 Magic sailing and it hasn't gone up or down since I got it one bit. (The lowest 11C category isn't available anymore but that was the case when we booked it.)

Well I should have clarified:

Day 1 of checking on the website this week - an oceanview was available (Cat 8),
then Day 2 - only a verandah (Cat 4) is available - couldnt click on oceanview option,
then Day 3 oceanview was available again!
How does the oceanview keep appearing and disappearing from my options!?!?

My guess is there is a limited number of ocean view rooms available, and as has been pointed out, even someone going as far as selecting a room will lock it for a bit. Not as long as if they put a hold on the room, but for a bit.

Because people are 'booking' to see what all it would cost, and the software will hold the 'booking' or 'reservation' for about 3 days and then if they don't put a deposit on it, they open back up to the public and are available.

From what you are describing, it seems the cruise is pretty booked with limited cabins left. There are certain actions that can be performed that will pull a cabin out of the inventory (and would no longer display as available) such as holding a cabin or even just selecting the cabin number in the booking process without completing it. The cabin will reappear once it cycles through and the system recognizes that it isn't booked (or the hold has expired). Normally, you wouldn't notice but if there is only 1 or 2 cabins in a certain category left, people holding them and releasing them will be noticeable from day to day.

As far as price, yes, if it is a fairly booked cruise, the price will do nothing but go up.

Also, not all ocean view rooms sleep 5. So sometimes for a family of 5 it will tell you that there are only Verandah rooms left, when there are still ocean view rooms available.
