Rafiki Planet Watch

Has anyone been to Rafiki's planet watch early enough to see them doing a procedure or check up on an animal in one of the observation rooms? I would love to see something like this and I heard you have to be there early, just wondering what time I should aim to be there.

We were there last week and saw 2 rat operations. We got there around 10 and they were still operating around 11.

I am sorry I don't remember the exact time but we were there at rope drop, went right to the safari then over to the train to Rafikis. Guessing it was around 9 by the time we actually got inside. They started a procedure on a mole rat, a check up. It was interesting but very slow. My daughter wants to be a vet and even she got bored after 20 min. However it was a neat experience. There was also a chat with. Keeper and a big blue macaw, a cm standing with some scorpions telling us all about them. Really fun, I understand why some people skip it but for us it was worth it. It was time consuming though! The cm narrating the procedure told us they once performed a c section on a big animal there, am forgetting which one...but something very dramatic like that can always happen you never know!

Thanks! Seems like every time we go its too late cause I always end up forgetting, trying to make it a point this trip as I think it would be something different.

We've been lucky to see something going on in that room every time we visit Rafiki's Planet Watch.

The most impressive was last March, where they were cleaning a female lion's teeth!

Simply wish for the best and feel free to ask CM who work there to know if they have a check up schedule that day.

Do they do something everyday (usually) or is it on just certain days?

We got lucky in January, and saw a procedure just before closing.

I don't think there's necessarily any schedule, it's just more likely that something will be happening in the early morning.

The veterinary procedures are scheduled for the morning and they are done every day of the week. The schedule is posted next to the observation window. In the afternoon there is a vet available for questions.

This is a great thread! Thanks for posting! I'm realizing we always arrive too late to see any procedures by the time we get to Rafiki's...

This trip we have a few AK days, so will definitely head there first one of them!

Thanks for the info!

The last time I was there I was talking with the CM and she was very nice, she even offered to check the schedule for the next day for me but did warn that it could change due to emergencies and what not. She had mentioned to get there early to increase your chances to see something. Just wanted to hear other disers experiences
