Change to Magic from Dream?

We have a 4 night cruise planned on the Dream for this coming January.

I have 2 boys ages 7 and 10 who love their Superheros.

Now I'm wondering if we should switch to the Magic with Marvel?

I originally booked the Dream as I wanted the AquaDuck and I figured it was a newer, bigger ship.

What is the difference between Dream and Magic? We would still do the 4 night Bahamas cruise.

Is the Dream a much nicer ship than Magic?

Yeah, the Aquaduck is OK but it's NOT worth planning your cruise on! We loved the Dream but we were really excited to cruise on the 'new' Magic next year. Have you compared prices? I think it's going to be really fun with live superheros etc. We don't even have kids and i"m excited! But the Dream has great detective agency games, incredible entertainment, and magic portholes etc. I don't know, they are both good! Aquaduck to me equates to about...10% of our trip actually... (but who knows, other families may think its the moon and the stars) We rode it once and it was fun. But the rest of the trip really was what was amazing. They will both be great, so I would use price and itinerary as a guideline. And if you have been on the Dream already, I would DEFINITELY switch over!

No one has been on the new Magic yet, so the comparison can only be made to the old Magic.

Some things that won't change are the size of the Magic, which is smaller than the Dream. Dining rooms are smaller, number of people on the ship is smaller. The Magic will have a slide rather than the AquaDuck. The theater is smaller (no balcony), shows might be different.

The Dream always does 3 and 4 day trips, and is very good at them. Magic has trips of all lengths, so has extra shows, menus etc when they need them. On a 4 day versus a 4 day, menus and shows should be similar.

No detective game on the Magic.

We are cruising the Magic over the Dream as well. Basically because we are doing a 3 night cruise and the Magic is a smaller ship (easier to manage in 3 nights time) and with all of her new enhancements- is going to be comparable to the Dream.

I would personally stick with the dream. I have cruised on the Wonder before, and it is spectacular, but nothing compared to the dream. Also, the Magic takes other routes, so unless you 're ok with switching your ports of call, you probably want to stick with the Dream. I am actually cruising Fantasy tomorrow, which I'm beyond excited about! The restaurants, entertainment, nightclubs, staterooms, practically every aspect of the cruise is better! Whatever you decide, though, you'll have a magical time

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm confused now. I was so excited about the Dream and the Aquaduck. But my boys are Marvel crazy and with the new AquaDunk they may prefer that.

I don't know! I was so looking forward to the dream and now I'm torn.

We can go one day later, same itinerary for $200 cheaper on the Magic.

The Magic will always be my favorite for sentimental reasons. We will always sail her when it's just DW and me. But, taking the kids, it's hard to beat the Dream class. More kids to play with, midship detective, updated Animators Palette. You get the idea.

I think it depends on how soon before you could do another cruise, but I would choose the Magic. What if your boys grow out of their interest in Marvel, or just age out of the clubs, before you have a chance to do another cruise? Chances are in several years, regardless of their age or interests, a water slide would still be cool, but the avengers areas may not be. There's pros both ways, but I would choose the Magic right now.

What's to think about?!?!?! $200 less SAME itinerary and 'new' ship!?

**I should add a liability waiver that all decisions in the end are yours and you have to live with them. Perhaps you should take a family vote...

I think it would be interesting to try the New-ish Magic, for the most part all of the features that were improved on the Dream look like they were brought over. Cabins look like they'll be similar to those on the newer ships. And like you originally stated they have Marvel and if you kids love than you should take advantage of it now.

I wanted to book on the Magic instead of the Fantasy initially but b/c our kids are to young / short for the AquaDunk, it seemed like it would cause more trouble than it was worth. So we chose the fantasy b/c we're bringing Grandma for her first trip on DCL and thought the Fantasy would be a bit more Grand on first impression and for a week it offers more space to explore

Also I'd be curious to see the lines for the Aqua Dunk, the slide is shorter but looks like they wouldn't be able to launch someone until the rider at the bottom cleared, and you'll probably have a handful of riders scared to get on and take some convincing, and then how fast can they get through a line looks like it might be tough on sea days....

Sorry probably not to helpful but the time spent in the kids club will probably be longer than the time on the Aqua Duck

That's what I'm thinking. It would be so cool for them NOW. In couple years maybe not.

No family vote as the trip is a surprise but I think they know something in the works. So maybe I can keep the Avengers onboard secret.

I checked the deck plans of both ships and don't see much difference. Just many more staterooms on the Dream. I mean the restaurants are different but that's not a huge draw for us.

I'm assuming like Tempus mentioned there may be some areas that are upgraded on the Dream over the Magic.

Okay I called my TA and she is out of the office until Monday. I have the weekend to mull this over.

I would choose the Magic everyday over the Dream (even without being redone!).

The Magic is going to have a more technologically superior Animator's Palette Restaurant! It's interactive. The Dream's AP is STILL great, but it's not the same as the Fantasy and that is what the Magic is getting.

The Dream has Magic Port Holes (interior) but the Magic doesn't (yet?!) but their interior rooms ARE cheaper than the Magic Port Hole interiors on Dream.

The Dream has Midship Detective agency, Magic doesn't. (Some in our group did it, some of us didn't have time.)

Magic has Marvel new additions, Dream does not.

I believe Magic has Character Breakfast? Dream does not.

For adults, Magic will be getting Irish Pub (yay for us), Dream has no Irish pub.

AquaDUCK on Dream is more 'calm' and AquaDUNK on Magic is supposed to be more thrilling.

Dream has ON DEMAND movies in the staterooms (we used it every day) and so for that, I'm REALLY HOPING the Magic will be able to have that as well since they are running the new conduit, but the jury is still out!

As for shows, I've haven't seen the Magic's, but Golden Mickeys on Dream was AH-MAZING, Villains Tonight was unnecessarily creepy in the beginning but eventually changed tones to be much more funny and hokey than scary. My parents walked out of it though and we almost did but it changed tones in the nick of time. (We don't like ghosty stuff, that's just personal preference.) Believe was OKAY, the inbetween musical sequences were good but the story was a teeny bit lame to me. I'm looking forward to the shows on the Magic, I think our Golden Mickeys is ALSO going to be on the Magic, and it's the one show I will HAPPILY see again!

Its a toughy but for less price and Marvel, I think I know what I would do, but only you know your kids! I wish I was a stinkin' kid! I'd be in the Super Hero training center all day.
