Confused about stateroom categories

We are trying to plan our first Disney cruise. What categories are preferred? What should I keep on mind when choosing a stateroom? What part of the ship is the best location?

My husband and I have been on cruises before. This will be the first trip for our boys ages 4 and 6 when we sail.

Unfortunately, room preferences are entirely personal. What some like others don't. Some people like the inside rooms, others wouldn't book less than a verandah. Some like rooms higher up on the ship, others prefer the lower decks.

That's why there is such a large variety of choices.

"Best" location would have to take into account what you want to be closer to (or further from) onboard.

I prefer any cabin I get for a good price. Whether that's IGT interior at the last minute or booking a royal suite on opening day during the lower seasons.
I just prefer knowing I got a deal!
What kind of preferences do you have?

Well I'd like to know the pros/cons of being on a lower deck vs upper decks. What areas are quiet?

Which ship will you be on? That makes a difference. We find the forward rooms quiet on both the new ships & classics. I prefer decks 6-8 on the new ships & 6-7 on the classics personally simply because then you area away from the theater & not directly under the pool deck. On the new ships, the cat 8s are larger than the 7-5s and some 4s with more storage space in the desk area. This is the category we will stick with from now on when cruising on the Fantasy. We also like porthole rooms on the classics. Cat 10s are great because of the floor plan and double steamer trunk. We cruise with the kids who are now adult size and need that storage space.
