smoking??

Was there smoking by passengers? If so how much? If there was swimming was it warm enough to do so?

We only have 14 more states for our kids to complete and Alaska is one of the last to get us to all 50 before the younger one is out of high school.

Here is what the Navigator says about Smoking: "For the comfort of our Guests the following open deck areas are designated as Smoking areas: Deck 4 Starboard side from 6pm-6am ONLY, Deck 9 forward Starboard side at Quiet Cove and Deck 10 Starboard side. Smoking is prohibited in all guest staterooms. guests found smoking in their staterooms will be charged a $250 stateroom recovery fee. Electroni cigarettes may only be used in designated smoking areas."

That being said, we did not encounter smoking or smokers anywhere on the ship. To guarantee that you don't (if that's what you're asking for), just stay away from the areas listed above.

As far as swimming goes, we saw plenty of kids in the pools on sea days and people sitting around the pools wrapped in blankets. I didn't think it was warm enough to swim. They keep the pools at about 84 degrees, but the air is cooler when you get out.

Alaska was the 50th state I needed to complete my tour of the USA too!

Hi again EeyoreIsMyName,

I'm the one who posted today about being bummed about the weather. I followed the link you had in your post to your trip report. Awesome TR and really great information. It sounds like you had a wonderful time and it really makes me even more excited now for our trip. Keep singing that sun song for me. Thanks again.

Glad I found this! We leave next Friday to go on the 8/19 cruise! I love all the tips and hearing what meals you enjoyed. Plus, the names of the stores is very helpful!

I appreciate all the info! I hope we have as good a time as you did. I'll have an extra Mickey bar for you!

I enjoyed your TR. I am sailing on the Wonder in september. And even though it is to the Bahamas and not Alaska, I liked seeing what could be on my cruise. I will have to do an Alaska cruise soon cause unlike you I am a HUGE Pixar fan! And a Pixar party sounds awesome! Don't get me wrong, I love the classics too they are the best but I love Pixar a lot! So thanks for taking the time and writing about your trip.

You're welcome! I'm glad it helped you out a bit. You would love Alaska-lots to see while you are cruising!

I have seen Toy Story (all 3), A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille WALL-E, Brave & Planes by Pixar. I just have a closer affinity to the classics that I grew up with rather than the newer animation from Pixar.

When you log into DCL to check your reservation, does it say if there will be a Pixar Pals party on your cruise. It did for us under the daily activities for the week. Maybe you will get to experience it on your cruise in September. I don't know if they will have the Pirate Party along with the fireworks that night instead. They do not do fireworks on the Alaska cruise due to local regulations. The Pirates in the Caribbean Party theme doesn't really fit into the Alaska cruise. Just got to thinking about this today and wondered...

Hi I love your trip report can't wait to set sail now! I was just wondering about the Alaska shopping guide is there a particular place to get these at the port like a shop or just a stand and how much was it?

Thanks! I know you will love your trip to Alaska. The Alaska Port Shopping Guide can be picked up in the queue line on your way into the port before security. They are handing them out. The shopping guides are free. If you may be interested in purchasing multiple items, have each member of the family take one as some coupons are only good for one item not mulitples of the same item.
