River Country

I wasnt really sure where to post this, but I have recently been looking up information on the old Disney water-park, River Country. I went there once (in its last year of operation) I found it strange that Disney would shut down a park, because I have never heard of Disney shutting down one of its parks, entirely. I have been trying to find info on this subject but I havent gotten much information. I figured this would be the best place to ask, somebody out there has to know about this! Anyway I was just looking for information as to why it was closed down, why its still on property in ruins/why nothing has been put there in its place and any other info on it! Thanks so much

There was a very recent thread on this and another earlier this year that included links to the YouTube videos mentioned by the PP. Do a thread search on River Country and those should come up. I think there was some discussion of the reasons for closure as well, which included people getting sick from bacteria in the water.

those videos are eerie to watch! especially that Disney keeps the lights on and music playing... very odd and creepy. Such a shame they can't/won't do something with that area. It had such a cool atmosphere!

There is talk of a DVC possibly going in that location sometime in the future. The rumors talk of a new DVC as an expansion for Fort Wilderness. Looks like the Poly is gonna be the next DVC expansion based on some recent rumors and permits obtained by Disney.

I think it was all about bacteria in the water in Florida's lakes and ponds. Same reason you can't swim in the Disney resort beaches
