If We Go To WDW In Sept 2014...

... how much do we REALLY need to worry about the new FP+ system if we hit the parks at rope drop?

We are early risers and like to get to the parks before opening each morning and have never had to use many regular FP's before lunchtime. Will this strategy need to change if other guests have reserved 9am ride times on popular rides or should we still be able to have short wait times (in general) in the standby line for the first couple of hours of the day?

My plan was to use the FP+ for ride reservations later in the day / evening?

People are still people and would likely be less prone to getting in for RD, especially with FP+ since it removes the "Get a FP early in the AM or you won't get one at all" thing during busy times (and for certain rides).

I think you'll be more than fine using RD then FP+ for later rides. It likely won't be much worse in the AM than you're seeing now and very well could be better.

We were there last week and had FP+. We seriously only used our Fastpasses for TSM, Soarin, TT and Splash M. The rest were walk on or 5 min wait. We never made it to rope drop.

Really, we don't know yet.

We have to see what changes when they end legacy FP and same-day FP+ begins. A lot depends on how much inventory is set aside for advance reservation and how much that leaves. And, how it will work for same day - first come first served like it today? Electronic access with everyone pounding on the system starting at 9am?

I don't think anyone can tell you what it will be like until we experience the full new system... and they may have to make adjustments as it goes live so it may be months in the making.

It's OK if it takes a few months to figure out since we don't go for another year.

~You don't need to worry at all. In the morning, especially at rope drop and double especially at EMH morning rope drop, you can walk on every ride twice! Have fun!
