Character Meet & Greets on Disney Dream vs WDW

I am just curious to get everyone's opinion about meet & greets on DCL vs WDW. We have never been to WDW with my son but we have family who loves WDW. They go every year to WDW and love having meet & greets with all the lovely characters.

I read somewhere that the meet & greets on the DCL are much more intimate and you get more time to spend with the characters than you do at WDW. Is this true? Also how long do you have to wait to meet the characters? We will be sailing on the Disney Dream in November of 2014 so I am just curious what to expect.

For 1, the ships are a little more structured. Each day in your navigator it will tell what characters will be out, when and where. Each character will be themed for that particular day. CC day they will be in bathing suits/tropical attire, formal night tuxes and tails etc.

There are also specific lines for each character, though generally if there is more then 1 character out, you start with one, then move to the next and so on, off the same line. Its almost like an assembly line. The Princesses for example, when they are all out together, you start at 1, then move on to the next 3 or 4 before exiting. Theres a ships photog at each character.

Wait times, I dont think weve waited more then about 15 minutes for our turn with the characters. It is a little more intimate, in that for the most part you can stop and interact. The escorts will tell you if there is no autographs etc. There out at least 2x in each costume per day so if you miss 1, theres usually a second.

How exciting. Is there a list of characters posted somewhere?

Thank you for your help! I like that the characters are out at least 2x so if you do miss them, you might still get an opportunity to see them again. We don't cruise for awhile (November 2014) but I am trying to get all my questions and ducks in a row before we go. Thanks again!

The character meet & greets on the ship are great and so are the escorts (some of which play characters too). They give you plenty of time to interact with the characters and if you're on a longer cruise they really get to know you. My little one loved the characters and by the end of the trip the characters and escorts all knew her by name and made every meeting extra special. We also got a special invite to a VIP meet & greet on the last day of the ship where us and only 10 other families got a special meet & greet with the characters (including ones that weren't previously available) prior to the final farewell show.

Once you do the cruise Meet and Greets, you will never want to wait in line at the parks again...!

Favorite Character Experience

I had brought my talking Doug toy (I only pretend to be an adult!) onboard the Pixar Cruise last year, and was in line to meet Carl (check my disboard name . . . huge Up fan!) Well, Woody was near by, and he comes running up to me, takes Doug and gives it a big hug! Carl saw that and starts backing up, like "Stay away!" It really was fun! Also, in the parks, character meets are IN PLACE of another activity (rides, shows, etc.) Onboard it IS your activity at that time . . . . also not in the broiling sun!
