Help me choose category on Dream cruise!

Not a first time cruise, but our first time on DCL. We are going on the Dream 4 night cruise. Based on our budget, I can go with categories 8A or 6A/B. Help me choose!

We are a family of 3, our daughter will be 4 at time of sailing.

8A would be on 5th deck (not HA)...those 'mini suite' rooms (the ones with the wall). I like how the room has 2 big portholes. I realize that there is no split bathroom.

6A or 6B -- we've never had a veranda cabin when cruising. A little nervous with our daughter, but of course wouldn't let her out there unsupervised. So not a deal breaker.

What would you pick? Price differential is 40-60 more for veranda.

Thanks!

$40 - 60 more? That's a bargain!
If you feel ok with having a balcony with a 4 yr old I would do it. I didn't feel comfortable back then but also back then was only 2 ships & much fewer balconies on the old ship so an upgrade on the Magic was like $800 for 4 of us. That was a no brainer to me.

Keep in mind that the cat 8 has much more interior space & storage compared to a cat 6 but it's good that there's only 3 of you & a 4 yr old's clothing doesn't take up a lot of space & it's a short cruise.

Now that my boys are 17 & 13.5, with adult & near-adult size clothing, we would be very tight in a cat 6 for 7 nts. It's even tight with all 4 of us in a cat 8 or 4 (both have same interior sq ft.)

Yeah, I really am thinking going with a 6B now. $40 difference for a veranda sounds nice. But those 8a rooms sure have a lot of room. Thanks so much for your thoughts!

We sailed in an aft 6b on the fantasy last month. It was awesome. Plenty of space and really used the verandah a LOT with our dd1.5. We booked the exact same cabins for our next cruise!

The 8A rooms are VERY hard to come by so if one is available and you want it, then grab it fast!

Verandah for sure!! Don't worry at all the railings are up to my chest, they also have plexi glass covering the rails so the kids can't climb. The door also has a fancy lock. Only thing kids climb on furniture so get a better look but even then the railings are high. Obviously adult supervision is still required

I'm gonna go against the pps :-)
We haven't sailed yet, but I soooooo liked the 8A category. Unless you plan to spend a lot of time on the varanda - why not have two large portholes? Your little one can hang out and have a great view without you worrying.

Needless to say - our category is 8A

Another thing to consider when sailing with preschoolers is if they still nap. When kids are young enough to need a nap it's nice to have a balcony to sit on so you're not just sitting quiet in the dark. Unless of course you want a nap too and that's not a bad thing.
