I realize that some guests will reuse last year's mug this year, but are there enough of them to justify alienating the guests that otherwise play by the rules? Eighteen dollars buys more soda than I can drink in a week when it is purchased from the Wal-Mart, Publix, Target, or Costco in Orlando.

I'm sure you are not the only one to feel this way, but for most, it is just an enforcement of the policy Disney already has in place.

The simple answer is 'Yes'. Yes, Disney is losing money from this, but I think the bigger issue is that this is stealing. Period. There are tons of threads where people ask if it would be ok to bring old mugs and plenty of others where people admit to doing it. A person doing this may not be robbing a bank, but they are still stealing. Disney is simply doing what they can to prevent this from happening. Why would Disney doing this alienate you if you are going to buy and use a new mug at each visit anyway? For those who follow the rules, this doesn't really change anything except we are allowed to use the mug at any resort self-serve station. Nothing but a bonus if you ask me.

I do hope they come out with a new design, though I won't be too disappointed since we don't have the current mugs yet. Do they still have the purple and pink handles?

I think the purple handles were only for the pilot at all star sports back in 2011 I have one of those and and orange one. Haven't seen those 2 colors since

I'm not sure how it's going to alienate anyone. If the mugs are used as Disney intends, any "restrictions" will be completely transparent and won't affect most people other than letting them refill at other resorts.

I don't like the price jump and with the RFID technology there should be an option to reprogram it for re use for future visits. I go twice a year, and think it would be nice and greener to be able to reuse.
The current mug has been my fav design so far. Love it!

In the hopes of keeping this about the new bugs/technology/issues, and not the neverending debate...

I'm concerned about the split-stay aspect. It isn't clear to me that if "length of stay" is just a 14-day mug, since it says that it can be for longer than 14 days...I've got a split stay coming up - no idea if this will be in place yet, but I'm not going to shell out $18/person twice...

I'm sort of wondering why they didn't add this as a MagicBand/MM+ profile feature, rather than add chips to the mugs...

From what I understand if you need it for more than 14 days as long as you advise before the 14 days run out they can add on more days
