Someone earlier had a tip on how to contact WDW without having to call the 407 area code. I would love to know that as u do not have an American long distance plan on my phone. Thanks

Inactive number as I just tried it

Don't think they have toll free numbers for general public only TA

I know when I was in Germany & wanted to book something I had to call international. Yes it was more but I needed to book under a discount that I found out when I was there.

Disney no longer has the 800 numbers you have to dial the 1-407 not to go for the Canadians i usually get a cheap calling card.

When I lived in Turkey - I used skype to call the WDW land line and good thing too - I was on hold for 45 minutes and had a 15 minute conversation getting a reservation. The phone call only cost 1-2 Euro!

Do you have a friend or family member with a plan? We have unlimited North America, and it seems quite popular amongst our family.

1) Disney does not have 800-toll-free for the public.
2) 800-numbers must be sales-justified.
3) Travel Agent toll-free pays for itself.
4) Public toll-free cost more than they generate *
. . . 800-Numbers have a base cost and per minute cost
. . . if sales are not made all the time, then the 800-number is just overhead
5) With 800-numbers
. . . too many people just call to gab or ask questions
. . . each call has to generate "X" amount in sales
. . . with toll-free calls, the numbers are just not there

* Toll-free lines are very costly for an operation like Disney. One
line can be as high as $55,000 per year. Now, multiply that times
100's of lines.

What about using a travel agent that had a toll free number? Dreams unlimited and Small World Vacations both have toll free numbers from Canada. (Eh)

I used to have unlimited calling plan when my mother was ill. She lives in Florida. But now I don't have to make as many calls, so it was cheaper to drop the plan. From Canada long distance is cheap, only $.05/ minute. So 10 minutes will only cost you $0.50.

As mentioned, you can use a TA that is a Disney Authorized vacation Planner. Most have 800 numbers, and after initial contact to find out what you are wanting to plan, most contact is done by email.

No need to be an apologist for Disney.

Never mind that Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott and every other large hotel have 800 numbers, if Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn where rooms go for $75 a night can afford to have an 800 number, so can Disney.

As others have mentioned, I would consider booking through a TA. I noticed you're new, Welcome If this is a first trip, there can be some other benefits of having a TA, especially when coming from another country. So it might be a win-win for you.

I think the thread that you were thinking about is this one:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3135742

As noted, the 1 800 numbers don't work for regular mortals. We're lucky that we have unlimited calling in North America. So I never sweat the (potentially) long phone calls to the reservations line.

The first post on that thread mentions using the 10 10 7 10 number for a great rate on US calls. You might want to use that.

I got in some HEATED conversations online with Disney CMs about this last January and February when booking and making changes to ressies.

And while they didn't come right out and say it, they basically admitted this was another way to pass the cost on to the consumer.

This was particularly frustrating because I actually had to make 2 CORRECTIONS to my reservation, after booking on the phone the first time.

You can imagine, having to pay almost $1/min to call and have Disney fix THEIR mistake, so that I could come down and give them thousands of dollars. They apologized multiple times, and a couple times actually said that they were aware of this issue, and were working to create an alternative for us Canadians. Except, that was 7 months ago, and I don't see anything yet

The reason that I asked is I had one if my dinner reservations get cancelled by Disney. It was a computer glitch in their part. I had to make 2 extra calls at about 29 minutes each to have the issue fixed. Not sure why but I have had issues looking at my dining reservations on the Disney website. Never had the problem in the past.
