I've always done MK the first day, since to me, that just says, "Welcome to Disney World!!!" I might give it a shot starting with another park on the first day, but I honestly don't know how I'd feel.

However, in your case, I would still do MK the first day, if you have hopper tickets. You could enjoy the low crowds at MK due to the party, and then hop once it closes and do a late night at another park.

Smile Of Course!!!

Of Course! We've been six times and hit up MK the first day every time. It's the perfect start to such a magical trip!

Maybe its because we've been so many times (at least I think 15 is a lot) but we never feel it a must to get to the MK quickly. One trip we don't go to the MK until the last day of our trip.

We definitely look at crowd calendars to decide. I can kind of understand not feeling like you are in WDW until you see the castle, but I think my family is just at a point where we don't do the parks a lot and just enjoy being on WDW property.

So is MK a must-do for you on day 1? Worth the shorter park hours?

Our last trip we actually hit Epcot first- but it really "felt" like Disney that second day when the castle came into view!
I don't think MK is "must do" for your first day. But if it was for my family I wouldn't let the party stop me. Party days seem to be less crowded than non Party days. If I wanted to do MK I would go and stay until party time.

IF you will be arriving early in the morning, and IF you have park hoppers, then I'd still consider going to MK that day. Especially since it is a recommended park. Josh actually recommends that park BECAUSE of the early closing. We've gone on party days and the crowds are remarkably low until 4:00.

You could always have dinner and hop to another park for the evening (if you aren't already tired out from travelling).

We've never made it a point to visit MK on the first day. Like many others, we go with the park recommendations, so many of our visits start with one of the other parks. But we don't have little ones with us anymore.

In the past we have always done MK when we arrived, but this year DH said he didn't want to eat at Crystal Palace again and I don't want to waste park time on the first day leaving the park to travel to a resort for dinner, so we are going to do Epcot on our arrival day and eat at Biergarten.

We follow crowd calendars so it's rarely our first day.

EPCOT is our first park.We started the tradition on our honeymoon and 1st anniversary (all Oct. trips, Hello F&W!)..and just carried the tradition as we became parents. To us we are at Disneyworld when we see Spaceship Earth.

No, we are going to Animal Kingdom first because that is the last park we visited 10 years ago. My husband's request.

Not This Time

Our flight will be getting into Orlando by 5 PM, and Epcot has extra magic hours that evening, so we'll be kicking the whole visit off with the character dinner at Garden Grill. Our first full day will be the next day at Magic Kingdom.

We have plenty of wiggle room (aside from our dining reservations), so my organizing chart may be scrapped. No biggie.

The MK is always our first and last park regardless of arrival times, crowd calendars, whatever. In September we arrive at 3:30 and anticipate getting to the resort, checking in, and being there by 5. And it will only be open till 7 that day due to NOJ. So we will go there and have our traditional first meal at Casey's Corner. Then we may ride a ride or just shop for a bit before going to Epcot. Short stay but we always go to MK first.

Just doesn't seem like disney without MK being our first park! We may hop to epcot after but always MK first morning of first full day! We never go to parks on arrival day.
