Whispering Canyon

Heard and read for years about the place. Finally we go and will never go back. The only plus to the visit was seeing the resort. I don't believe it was a bad server, bad food, it just wasn't worth the hype.

I think it's actually pretty impressive that they're able to make it so convincing. I understand that it's not everyone's thing (it's certainly not a dining atmosphere that I'd want to be in every day or anything), but it's kind of like going to Sci-Fi and complaining that you have to sit in a car.
I had no idea what to expect with 50s Primetime. I'm not a Disney expert. It was highly recommended to me when I called to make Disney dining reservations so I went on blind faith. I didn't try to picture the decor beforehand and I just wasn't impressed with it. But that's me. To each his or her own.

As for the food, I couldn't believe how bad my meal was. I don't eat meat other than fish so there was only one thing on the menu I could eat - whole wheat spaghetti and "faux" meatballs. The whole thing tasted - literally - like cardboard. I had one bite and I had to stop. My DH and kids were also very unhappy with their food. It was probably the worst meal I'd had anywhere ever - not just Disney.

Although they were super nice and squeezed us in last minute, Ohana. Everyone was very lovely, and the place was very cute. Just wasn't our cup of tea

Thought the food was just plain awful at Mama Melrose and Chef Mickey's for dinner (although we did have a fun time).

Thought the food was edible at the Garden Grill, but bad enough that we won't return.

I may be the only one on this one, but Tusker House. And it actually has nothing to do with the food. Time #1: I was forgotten after check in and twice had to go remind them I was there. 40 minutes later, I finally got a table. Time #2: Daisy skipped us and we told our server who went and told her. She came stomping back and would not stand still for a picture with me and we had to ask her for another one since the first one did not turn out. She at least stood still with a picture for DH.

You must be new to the DIS.

Probably the only restaurant that nobody is going to post about being bad is
Joe (or Joey to Donna)

I agree with 50's Primetime although I did think it was cute inside, but the food was horrible. Add Sci-fi, Pizza Planet and any incarnation of the Rainforest (including t-rex). I used to like Le Cellier for lunch but I highly doubt I will be back since the changed it to a signature.

I think it would be more helpful, perhaps, if people said what food they got at each restaurant that they didn't like..

A PP mentioned getting fish at 50s? I've never been, but that is the LAST thing I would get there. Likewise, I'm not going to get a porterhouse at Nine Dragons, nor would I expect it to be good.

If someone doesn't like a buffet...WHAT about the buffet didn't you like? There are dozens of items!

Of course, the PP who said they had to choke down the second bite of margherita pizza at Via Napoli was just crazy...

Our last trip to Disney was our first time there and we were very happy with most of the restaurants except for 50's Primetime Cafe. Yuck! The 50's atmosphere of linoleum, formica, and flowery wallpaper is probably really cute to some but my brain just screamed "remodel!" LOL. However, the main problem was the food which was unedible to me. We all left hungry because we couldn't stomach the food and went to get snacks.

Are there any others to avoid?
Sorry if this was said before. I have not read the posts yet! But we have been to Disney about 50 times. Every trip some restaurant disappoints us. And it might be the place we loved the last time! Lol! It might be food, service, too cold inside. (SciFi) but most of the time we are happy. We luv 50's food. We sit at the bar to avoid the theme. We like the food! So it is really hard to tell you where to avoid because everyone is differant! The only place I will never go back to is H+V. We went 3 times and each time the food and service got worse. But that was probably 5-6 years ago. Maybe it is better now? Another place I won't be going back to is the Wave. But people luv it! I am just too picky and they aren't flexible with subbing.

Tony's Town Square: bland, bland, bland

Chef Mickey's dinner: I just had to see for myself didn't I? Never again

Coral Reef: we didn't enjoy our meal here at all. Food quality was bad (tough/overcooked steaks) and the service was awful. I was surprised by the noise level too. I *might* would try this one again, but it will be a looooong time before I do.

To me these restaurant threads prove how no one will agree on what is good or bad.

The interesting thing I have read though is that the food quality has decreased, I thought it was due to cost cutting but it could be like others have indicated...the free dining! If that is the case, that is too bad because people like to have unique experiences on vacation and that includes dining.
