Quebec City on a future East Coast itinerary?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, although I have often visited this forum to find out tons of interesting info for my Disney cruises. I finally have a tidbit of useful info to contribute! On June 20th, I was browsing my regional newspapers when I saw an article saying that Disney was actively in talks with our port authorities about adding Quebec City as a stop for one of their East Coast itineraries, as it is becoming more and more popular within the cruise industry!
Since I have not posted before, I can't yet paste links to the original articles, but here is how to find them easily using the journalists' names: just Google "Stephanie Martin Disney Quebec" and "Marianne White Disney Quebec" and the corresponding article will be the first (for Stephanie) or second (for Marianne) search result. The articles are in French, but they don't say much more than what I just told you anyways, it's still a bit vague. They say that Disney is showing interest either for 2014 (doesn't seem likely to me, would be very soon), or 2015 (that might be more realistic). So, let the speculation begin

PS: I'm sorry but with work and the kids, I'm not going to be able to reply much, but I can just tell you how gorgeous Quebec City is and how much fun you would have here if Disney does decide to come!

Quebec City is indeed a beautiful part of Canada!

I would think it is very possible that at some point DCL may start/end cruises there.

I would love that! We just went to Quebec with my DS's 8th grade class and the city is beautiful. We talked about wanting to go back again.

Would the ships fit though? We did see a much smaller cruise ship (NCL I think) at a port by one of the ferries. I can't really imagine the Magic or Wonder sitting there but it would be really cool!

Quebec has berthing for major shipping, size would not be an issue!

I was on Explorer of the Seas to Quebec City, and that ship is considerably larger than the Magic or Wonder. However, many larger ships can't get all the way to Montreal. That's why HAL Maasdam can sail out of Montreal, but not the larger Eurodam.

Thank you for the info, Barbamama!

I saw that in Le Soleil this weekend The article said that they'd probably have to upgrade the terminal or even build a second one, as the current one probably wouldn't be able to accommodate all the added traffic. The cruise industry seems to be booming around here - Holland America announced last week that the MS Veendam would have Quebec as one of its home ports starting in 2014. It's great for our tourism industry, though I hope those massive ships don't block the gorgeous views of the St. Lawrence river We'll have to wait and see!

Oooh...I'd love to see this happen!

But I have a question: is "Dingo" the French name for Goofy?

"Mickey, Dingo et compagnie pourraient débarquer dans la capitale dès 2014 ou 2015, avec à leur suite des centaines de familles."

We were on a fall foliage cruise that ended in Quebec City in Oct 2012. Loved the city, and the leaves too!

Thanks for the info! I would love to go back & know DS would too. We were just watching his class video & he pointed out how all the kids touched the jester statue. Supposedly, if you touch the statue, you are guaranteed a return trip. I will have to let him know about this rumor

We love Quebec City (specially old Quebec) and been to visit several times. Can't say the same about Montreal.

In any case, a few things:

* 2014 itineraries are out
* The test DCL had on the East Coast was popular but the Canadian ports were VERY expensive
* Castaway Cay sells - going to the north prevents that, and sailing out of NY to CC takes at least 7-8 days. DCL wants a combination of short and long sailings.
