Quality of beach towels sold on the ships

Several people have mentioned in other threads that they buy beach towels on the ship or at CC to use while on the cruise and/or to take home as souvenirs. I like the idea, but I'm wondering about the quality. My DD has been given beach towels from the Disney Store twice in the past, and they were both very thin and IMO not great quality. Are DCL's towels any better?

For beach towels, they should be considerably thinner than say, a bath towel, to allow for easy air drying. That being said, I bought one on CC on our last cruise (Dec, 2011) and use it for all my beach outings and it is still in great shape. I have seen many beach towels of lesser quality and this one is significantly better than those.

We got the AquaDuck beach towel on board two years ago. In my opinion, it's a great beach towel! It's held up really well, too. I'm glad we bought it!

We've got several and they've held up well. But I did buy one that was thin, and it's ok, but all the others have been really nice. We use them pool side for half the year.

The quality is good (was better in the past) but still good. I buy a beach towel every single cruise (I have tons of them)...still using the ones from the early years of DCL!!!

The Disney Store ones are pretty good quality I have found.

We bought the Mine Mine Mine towel with the Seagulls from Nemo at Castaway Cay in July 2011. We have used it almost 2 years and it is still in great shape.

We have quite a collection from the last few years. We buy at least one per sailing and have been using them constantly since we got them. DS is a year-round swimmer and uses them for all his practices and swim meets. They are holding up very well and have not been noticeably faded yet depsite constant use all year long. They're not thin and flimsy, but not a really full plush towel either. Just a good average weight that won't fill up your suitcase too much.

I have actually found that I like the ones you buy in Treasure Ketch or whatever that other store is called for $15-20 with a $50 purchase. They always let us buy two for the boys. We also bought the Captain Mickey hooded towel on CC this time. That one is thinner, but still super cute and although we haven't used it much, seems to hold up just fine.

Well, alrighty then! :-) The consensus is clearly that the DCL beach towels are good quality and hold up well. Looks like we'll be buying a couple in September!

Maybe the Ariel towel my DD got from the Disney Store a few years ago was an anomaly, because it only held up for one summer of pool use.

Thanks to all for your responses!

They are the thin type. We buy them for our boys. They are both swimmers so they get used and washed a lot, hence the reason I buy them. We have one that is 8 years old and is still in good shape. However, if you prefer thick towels like Costco has, then save your money.
