Help with staterooms, new to cruising

I am new here and I am sure there is a guide somewhere but, my husband and I want to take our first Disney cruise. We are in Florida and just want to do a small 3 day cruise for our first one. We know nothing about the rooms and we would like one with a verandah. I don't understand the categories and what they all mean. Can anyone help me?

Quick verandah tutorial for the Disney Dream (3 night of out Port Canaveral? This is your ship choice.)

Category 7 - partially obstructed views
Category 6 - verandahs that have solid walls
Category 5 - verandahs with clear plexiglass bottoms
Category 4 - verandahs with clear plexiglass bottoms, largest stateroom, round tub
Category 00V- same as category 4, but with concierge privileges

The letters after each number will indicate location and pricing - generally a 7A will cost less than a 5B.

General favorites are midship - it's less walking and you feel the least motion here - the Dream is a big ship! Also highly suggested, rooms that are not above public/common areas. So something with staterooms above and below. Also the higher the deck the more expensive the room will be.

Any questions?

Category 6 is a solid wall but the wall only comes up to about shin height and the rest of the wall is clear plexiglass.

On the aft portion of the ship there is no plexi, it is a completely solid white wall. The stated above is usually not the case.

There are no category 6's on the Dream that are in the very aft of the ship - they are on the side and have only a partial white wall.

On the Magic/Wonder category 6 is a full solid white wall.

I change my statement about no 6's in the Aft there are some 6B's that are at the very back that might have a solid wall. The 6b's that are on the side near the aft have a partial wall.

I guess the stateroom I was thinking of as my example isn't a 6, but rather a 5E (9170) and it's one of those odd white angled railing with bars. - the accessible staterooms in my memory banks always confuse me.

Also yes, classic ships are 6A solid, all the time.

There are a few quirky ones. Hopefully the OP will come back and give us a better idea of what she's looking for in light of this overview.

Hey guys sorry I am in magic kingdom right now. We would probably like a good view as I love ocean and we would probably sit there and relax in the morning and evening. Having privacy would also be good. Best suggestions?

Since you seem to want a specific suggestion:

If you want all of the factors previously mentioned without completely breaking the bank I'd suggest a 5D on deck 6, around midship. Somewhere between 6054-6064 or 6550-6560. Deck 6 puts you two deck up from the main adult areas and two/three above dining, pool is on deck eleven. Spa is forward, adult clubs are aft.

If you want to splurge go concierge. Deck 12 - 12010 is a prime room with an extended balcony and down the hall from the concierge lounge.

How do you know using the letters where the room will be located? Such as mid ship or not above public areas? Any suggestions are welcome. Also anyone's preferences are welcome as we don't know much about cruises. We could give you the low down on resort rooms at WDW as that is what we usually do and are DVC members. Can't wait for our first cruise

Easiest way is to check the deck plans. It will take some time to learn all about them. Everyone has their own preferences.

Neat thanks for the link I have tons of questions related to cruising but since this is about rooms I shall ask on other threads. So the letter tells you the location and the number is just category?

Category (the number) is how I broke it down for you up there, it determines the "features". The letter is just how "good" within the category it is. However good in the cruise line's eyes doesn't necessarily mean "the best" in everyone else's eyes.

So a 5A will a clear plexiglass balcony in the second largest size and have a rectangular tub as opposed to a round one. It will be on the highest deck that a category 5 room is offered. And so on and so forth.
