Which would you choose?

Here are the 2 vacation options I have.

I can go to WDW for a week in 2014 and 2015

or we can go on a Disney cruise in 2015

My mom is paying for the vacations and since the cruise is so much more then the week in Orlando.....also I am unemployed and DH makes enough for the bills

We went on our 1st cruise in 2012 and it was amazing. We have been to WDW 4 times now.
I would like to go on the cruise again but am I being selfish by taking the cruise and having my kids skip a year without a vacation for the cruise?

Thanks

I have to wonder how you are figuring the cost of the cruise compared to WDW. Are you looking at a verandah or an inside stateroom. There is a big difference in cost there. We have always been amazed at how much some pay for a week at WDW because it is more than what we pay for a 7-night cruise.

I agree with this since we're going through the same calculation right now for 2014. Ticket prices for WDW are astounding...to the point where if we factor in food, it might be the same to cruise.

Once we factored in everything for a week in WDW, it was going to be barely less than the cruise we're going on in October (5 night double dip).

But I digress... For me, I'd much rather do the cruise than WDW (but that has a lot to do with my kids and their preferences, and my own preferences...oh and my husband ). After this cruise we are taking a year off then doing Hawaii in 2015. To me, it's worth it to take a year off if it means a REALLY great trip the next year. Quality over quantity. But that's just my 2 cents. You'll have fun either way.

my mom has a timeshare at a marriott in orlando and it has a kitchen so we go to the local supermarket and get our food (which she pays for) I only pay for the airline ticket and the park admissions which I use my Disney reward dollars for. She lives in FL so she drives there and we have a car. This vacation costs us less then $3000 for the week.

We are a family of 5 (with my mom) and for the cruise we then need 2 room of which she insists 1 must be with a Verandah. so we looked at one for 2014 and without airfare it was over $8000.

Could you not do a family suite with a verandah that sleeps 5? That's what we're doing. It was about $4000 for our 5 night.

What time of year are you going? Is it the same week? If you end up doing the 2 vacas at WDW, maybe you could get the annual pass and go back 51 weeks later and use it again.

8k for a weeklong cruise seems steep to me. Generally I lean toward a cruise, but if you can't get that amount down then I would have to say do WDW. I suppose you can't go off season when the prices are lower?

So you are comparing apples to oranges. You can use your Disney reward dollars for the cruise as well, BTW.

for WDW we usually go the 2nd week in October to enjoy the Halloween Festivities.

For the cruise it's more about when a ship is leaving and going somewhere we want to go. so we have been trying different cruises.
If (hoping) it comes back to NYC then we can knock the airfare and the cruise will get a bit more affordable.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I'd save for the cruise, and choose mini adventures near your home instead of a big vacation next year. If you had never been to Disney before, I'd say go to Disney.
