Happy Freakin Father's Day

http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/18/us/mis...eipt-expletive

Quote:
Receipt profanity angers dad who took young son to sports bar

(CNN) -- Everything was going fine, until the bill came.

But it wasn't the amount on the check that angered Joseph Gibson, who had stopped at a St. Louis sports bar to chow down.

It was a line on the special order section for his young son that set him off.

Under "1 -- Wing Sauce" the receipt read: "****ing Needy Kids."

The name of the bar? Friendly's.

Denny Domachowski, the general manager of Friendly's Sports Bar and Grill, told CNN the waitress meant it as a joke and intended to delete it before handing the bill to Gibson. She's been reprimanded, he said.

"I apologized to them, and he called later and I apologized again," Domachowski said.

Gibson, who had a soda and chicken dinner, was still offended.

Snarky quip, no tip: Receipt goes viral

He posted a picture of the receipt to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Facebook page. He wrote that he was upset by the explanation that it just a joke among co-workers.

"So customers with children are a joke? This place isn't so friendly. I got nowhere with management," he wrote.

Domachowski explained that he made a Father's Day exception for Gibson to bring in a child even though the bar was for patrons 21 and older.

The restaurant has no children's menu so the waitress had to manually type in the boy's order of one chicken leg.

"The incident shouldn't have happened, and I made sure she understands that," he said. "She didn't mean to offend the gentleman and his son. She had a good experience with them as customers. She was just in a hurry and forgot to take that off."

He added that he doesn't understand why Gibson is "making a mountain of a mole hill."

But he conceded. "I wouldn't want anyone calling my granddaughter, who is four, that."

Yet another receipt based non-story. The waitress shouldn't have done it, her manager was notified, the restaurant or manager or whomever apologized.

I don't get A) the inability of people to just laugh off stuff like this and B) the need to go to the press with this kind of thing.

Yeah

Something I would have a serious talk with to management? Yes.
Something I would mention on the DIS? Yes.
Something I would go to the press about? No.

On the flip side, lots of people that were in the BAR could be equally pissed there were children IN A BAR.

The father called and asked if he son could come into the restaurant, the manager made an exception. The manager should not of made an exception if it was going to be an issue.

In this article http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2013/06...?ncid=webmail2

Quote:
The Post-Dispatch called the bar and owner Denny Domachowski told the newspaper that there had been no issues -- the child was perfectly well behaved, and the service was polite.
Quote:
Gibson said that he had phoned the Friendly's manager to say that he was offended, and to ask what action would be taken, and was purportedly told that "if your [sic] that highly offended then don't come in," after which the person taking the call hung up.
Personally, I think typing things like that on receipt, even if you are going to remove it, is immature.

When did it become okay to target kids? According to the owner the kid did nothing wrong. I can only imagine what my tickets say because I don't want sauce on my food. Yep, I am a ****ing needy patron.

And that would fall directly on the Mangers shoulders because he made the exception, when he shouldn't have.

It appears he just posted on FB that he was upset about it, not that he went to the press.

I'm not one to be easily offended, and I probably wouldn't have done anything but mention it to the manager, but I don't understand the point of a waitress putting that on the receipt in the first place. There's always going to be a chance that you forget to take it off. And for what, a five second laugh? Stupid.

But he did go to the press about it. He posted it on the St Louis Dispatch's facbook page, not his own.

From the article you quoted:

IMO this is same as going to the press about it.

OK, I misread it.

It does seem newsworthy to me, though, because there have been other, similar, stories in the news, and I think the public has a right to know we're being treated this way, as customers.

I mean, I don't delude myself into thinking that employees in lots of places don't criticize their clientele in various ways. But in the age of social media, it's pretty dumb. Maybe seeing this go viral will help other establishments stop the practice.

First off, why in the world did the father want to bring his son to a dive bar for fathers day? You know the father picked that place, not the son. If he really needed a drink with his meal, I'm sure that there are plenty of other places he could have gone and it probably would not have cost him more then the $14 be spent. Daddy sounds like a real winner!

Secondly, the waitress is an idiot. I can imagine the vile things that come out of her mouth on a nightly basis if this is her reaction to ordering an extra chicken leg for a child. She must be a joy to work with.

Third, the manager doesn't sound all that bright himself. I love how he totally excuses the behavior of the waitress. She didn't really mean it, it was just a joke, she forgot to take it off. Not to mention the whole 'letting a kid in the bar thing'.

Something tells me that their main clientele aren't going to care about this story one way or another. They are just going to order another beer.
