I need a safe place to post something. I have been following the changes to the GAC program over on the disabilities board. The thread is supposed to be informational and not judgemental, but of course it is. I am tired of hearing that all kids are equal, etc. I am not saying mine deserve more than theirs, but he is different and has different capabilities and needs.

I just want to scream at them....did any of them have to console their child last night that was crying so hard he almost threw up because his sheets have worn out so bad they have a hole in them. He cried for hours and said he felt like he was losing his best friend and said if someone offered him a million diamonds or his sheets back to the way they were he would choose his sheets. His world was ending last night and nothing I said or did could make it better. Does their child freak out and start bolting when they are accidentally knocked in line? Do voices and smells send their children into full meltdowns? Have they spent years of occupational therapy so their child can stand the sound of a flushing toilet? Is their child pulled out art, music, PE, so they can go to social skills group and learn how to function in everyday life? Does their child need an aid at school just to make it through a day?

Now tell me how my child is no different than all the other nuero typical children who don't want to want to wait in line either. I am not abusing the GAC system, I was using it so my child could enjoy Disney. Before we knew about the GAC we had stopped going to Disney because it was impossible with him. Now tell me how taking away the GAC has made a fair and level playing ground for everyone???

I'm sorry I needed to get it off my chest but really didn't feeling with flaming and backlash.

Thank you for letting me vent in our safe place!!!

HUGS

You know, I feel the same exact way and I have been avoiding these threads for this reason. Anytime I have seen something posted on FB there are tons of NT parents, or non-parents at all posting how we are in an uproar over nothing and should be thankful Disney does anything to accommodate us blah blah blah. You know what? Why don't they try living daily life with our kids. Why don't they deal with the meltdowns, school meetings, therapy sessions, doctor's appointments, and worst of all, public criticism. Our kids just want to feel NORMAL, and if for just a short time they get special treatment to help them to feel that way then big effing deal?! You get to enjoy your children every single day. We get heartache and stress. If Disney offered a system to us that was LITERALLY the only enjoyment we had together as a family, why aren't we allowed to be upset at its discontinuation? I already know that this new system is going to be a nightmare for us. First, finding ways to entertain him during the wait periods, nightmare. Going to the ride to get a return time and having to walk away WITHOUT riding, huge nightmare. Leaving the park before getting to ride something he loves because of heat, rain, meltdown? The absolute worse thing ever. I am really debating scrapping all plans of going to the parks right now.

Melissa, First

Second, you are such a good mom and do so much for your little ones. Stephen is the sweetest little boy and I am so glad I got to meet him. He was so funny telling me all of his little "facts" about stuff.

I don't understand the need to bring people down on these boards at all. And as soon as one person pounces, they all pounce. And, people don't see things outside of how their life operates or functions.

I hope that you will find the new system adaptable to your needs. You need to not let these crazy people get to you. Though I know it's hard.

And you too, Dani! I've told you before how in awe I am in what you are able to do for your kids.

Oh HUGS for you both, and I totally understand your feelings. This board is full of mean mean people. We know how much you do for your kiddos, and yes you do deserve to enjoy Disney in a way that works for your family. It is so sad that a few horrible abusers of the system have ruined it for families like yours.

You are both amazing moms, Dani and Melissa, and still you take the time to be there for us!!! We love you!!

I forgot to post this the other day after I'd mentioned... here's Miss M with her crazy face dressed in her "Princess Bubblegum" outfit (missing the pink hair extensions I'll put in):

That's who she's holding in her hand, a little figure of Princess Bubblegum. She's a scientist princess so I, of course, approve of that sort of cartoon role model. I spent yesterday finishing up the belt for my costume. It's hilariously bad, and if you're familiar with Adventure Time, I'll be going as Earl of Lemongrab. CRIPES! Reminds me, I need to buy our tickets.
Miss-MissM is totally adorable! What a fabulous costume!!

Those 12 days we spend in September at Disney aren't just 12 days at some amusement park. Those days are the days where the 5 of us remember why we love each other so gosh darn much. (At home sometimes it's easier to forget) They are the days where we all smile till our face hurts and we put away our laptops and email. We eat too much ice cream and then eat some more. It's where we take all of the pictures that we will pull out someday and look at and be so glad we took them. It's where Daddy takes his little girls out to dinner in a castle and where the boy and I go on dates and share a sundae and a movie on the beach. It's where the girls and I will have Afternoon Tea in our best clothes, while the boys eat chili dogs. It's where I don't have anything to do BUT listen and talk and enjoy. It's the place where I'm the mom I want to be all the time, but sometimes the stress of life gets in the way. It's the place that we are a family the best. " . Love her quote. Read through that whole trip report last night. Thanks for sharing Jenny.

Are the germs gone from the kiddos? Did you break the news of the new reservation yet? Sheila: The pink is SO pretty! If it weren't for Miss M nabbing that color, I'd have gone for it too. (Or purple if it existed). Candace: BC?! Well, you know how I feel about that. Not that I think y'all will keep it, of course. Lacey: Welcome home. Woooo! Yay for APs! They'll be burning holes in your pockets. to GG, Ginny, Koh, Magic and Trish.
Miss M is so stinkin' cute!!! Love that costume but I have never heard of Princess Bubblegum! And yes, my APs are already burning a hole in my pocket!!!

Jen and Miss - we really enjoyed BWI. The pool is awesome! The rooms were nice and spacious. My favorite part was location. I loved being on the boardwalk. Since we were there with friends, it was great having a place to hang out before retiring to our rooms for the evening. The bakery is awesome and a great place to grab breakfast or a snack. I think the pool is second place to SAB. It was big and had a really great slide. Good lifeguards too - we saw two saves on our pool day!

We had a standard view room that overlooked the front porch of the resort. We could definitely hear the nighttime entertainment from the boardwalk in our room. It seemed to wind down before 10 though so it was never a problem but I did notice it. I went up to take a nap one day lol and felt like the resort itself was noisy. I swear it sounded like marbles were being thrown above our room. We were on the fourth floor so maybe it was the housekeeping carts on 5? This could be true at all resorts because honestly we are never in our rooms midday like that. Normally if we were at the resort we would be hanging out at the pool. The coffee in the room was terrible just like at all the resorts :-(

Anyway, we would definitely go back here with the kids. It wasn't our top favorite but we still really enjoyed our stay.

I am thinking Poly for Feb and we will just deal with the construction. I want to make sure the pool will be open though.

FYI - there is a "secret" passage that takes you from the indoor corridors of BC right to a sidewalk a few feet from the international gateway bridge. You can find out about it on the BC thread. I loved this tip because it allowed you to stay cool in the AC as long as possible before heading out. I think BC was closer to EPCOT than BWI.

Melissa and Dani - big hugs to you both! I have been following some of those threads as well and I can see that some of it would be hard to read.

You are both terrific moms! I admire what you do each day for your kids! I hope the new system works like it is intended and you are able to still enjoy the happiest place on Earth. I saw a couple of positive reports from experiences this week so I am very hopeful for you!

Happy Friday, ladies.

Wanted to say to both Melissa and Dani: You two are extraordinary mothers who'd travel to h*ll and back for your kids. Don't pay any mind to the negativity. Y'all vent here where you're amongst friends and you'll find a supportive ear.

You know she just LOVED when they played with her hair that day in the BC lobby. She loves being doted on because Mommy clearly doesn't count.

Thanks! I know, no scientist princesses around ... Disney's missing a trick there.

Yep, no way I'd ever get Miss M to go down that slide. I'm thinking maybe BWI she'd attempt... maybe.

Still haven't seen it. Stupid football last night. We had to make sure the Giants lost.

This Sunday is the return of The Walking Dead, right? Our DVR is piling up fast.

Thanks, Ginny. Etsy is a bit of a dangerous place -- so many excellent craftspeople/seamstresses.

Oh! Thanks for the recommendation. I'd read in a few places about how nice the lounge is. I need to find out where it's located since we haven't done much other than walk through the pool area and the lobby once.

I have a feeling this will still be the case for us. Just love the BC. Although I'm really looking forward to our BWI stay. Gotta check out all the options, of course.

Cheers for the review! That's what keeps taking us back to the Epcot area... we just love that area so much. As much as we were blown away by AKL (and would stay there again in a heartbeat), we appreciate the ability to walk to two parks. Nice to hear that you'd rate the pool that highly.

Hugs to all of you special needs moms. I don't know how you do it day in and day out and still manage to have your stuff so together. Truth is, I'm never on here anymore because I feel like I'm drowning every day with everything that comes along with DS's dx. I can't even bring myself to talk about it much. It just feels too weird.

I'm very nervous about the DAS myself. Our first GAC experience was in August and with it we still only did our usual 2-3 hours of park time at a time, but the difference in quantity and severity of meltdowns was night and day. I had such a happy little boy that trip. I guess I'm selfish, but I want that again.

Now I'm reading that people have started having trouble pulling FP- when they are using FP+ with APs and I am so overwhelmed.

I guess you'll probably find me sipping a pint in the UK while DS runs the hedge maze for the umpteenth time. I've done it before, I guess I can do it again.

Happy Friday ladies.
