Upgrade offers

I've read on here where people were offered upgrades before they left for their cruise via emails/phone calls...is that a common thing or a rarity? I really wanted a veranda, but the price difference was just too much for our budget. Since we booked, prices for our category have gone up but verandas have stayed exactly the same. Do you think that means they might offer upgrades? If so, when do they do that, and is the cost much cheaper?

Thanks in advance for any info!

First they will offer *GT rates to fill up available rooms. Upgrade offers are rare, especially for summer cruises during prime time.

You can go to cruisefish.net and look up your cruise to see what you paid for your stateroom and see how much it would be to upgrade to a verandah.

Depending on when you booked it might not be that much more.

I booked a WBTA and got opening day pricing for a standard inside room. When DCL released their itineraries for 2014 (up to Sept) people started shifting their reservations. I found out it would only cost my mom and I $380 total to upgrade to a deluxe oceanview stateroom. For 14 nights having a split bathroom and a window it was a no-brainer.

I'm sorry, I guess I don't really understand how cruisefish works...it was $4000 more to do the verandah than the oceanview when I booked. It's now around a $2000 difference between the categories. How do they figure up the upgrade price?

Did you find your cruise from the list? Then you find the category you booked and it will list prices with dates next to them. Figure out what your price was per person. Then go up to the category you want to move to and find the same line where you booked in the lower category stateroom. Subtract the amount from what you booked and that is the price per person. If you have kids then I believe they have a section for the 3 and 4th passengers.

If you booked without a TA you can call and ask what it would cost if it's too confusing on cruisefish.net. If you have a TA then they have to call and find out for you. Mine did a 3 way call so that she could confirm that I wanted to upgrade to an oceanview.
