Disney Magic Reservation Changed on Us

We were supposed to sail on the Magic for 4 days starting Dec 26th but have been told we are now changed to the Wonder as the Magic is moving to Canaveral instead of Miami. How many of you has this happened? I do not want to sail on the Wonder as I wanted to see the Magic after it was upgraded in drydock in Oct. Any idea is the Wonder is going to be upgraded soon? If not, I am going to cancel that cruise so we can go on the Magic like we planned.

A large number of Magic cruises were changed recently. DCL is making some itinerary revisions.

The Wonder may or may not be going to dry dock at the end of 2014 (depending on, at least, whether the new Panama Canal locks will be done on time). She may or may not be getting the same "upgrades" as the Magic. We don't know as no official announcements have been made about either of these possibilities.

Is this for 2014? or Dec 2013 this year?

I am seriously confounded by DCL altering people's itineraries so drastically. Its going to be bad on their organized & 'give the people what they want' entertainment model. With cruising being so competitive, people are going to stop paying the rates they demand and check out RCCL or something instead or stick with WDW...

When we were on the Wonder a little over a week ago we were repeatedly told that the Wonder would not be upgraded until the new Panama Canal locks are open (2015 the earliest).

Magic Changes

Sorry, I forgot to say our reservations that were changed are for Dec 2014.

Looks like I will cancel them now.

I assume 2014, as the Magic leaves MIA on Dec 27th this year...

You're not the only one; it has been discussed pretty extensively here.

Honestly, there have been people saying this same thing about different actions DCL has done over the years, and they're still filling the ships. Some actions (like the potential ban on alcohol carried on that fizzled) have been walked back, but DCL has pretty routinely changed itineraries, cancelled whole cruises because the ship is totally booked by a company, and just plain messed with their schedules.

It hasn't affected their ability to fill 4 ships so far, and I doubt this will either. There will be folks who get angry and leave the brand, but for every 1 person who leaves, there's another who's coming in. The only time that DCL has worried about competitive cruising is when they can't fill a ship on an itinerary, otherwise, it's all the market will bear!

Exactly! This isn't the first time and it won't be the last DCL changes or cancels cruises. It is the longest advance notice they have given guests, however, so in that sense they are getting better about doing it.

And you know, it's not just DCL. On another board that I frequent that covers other cruise lines, there's always reports about cruises being cancelled/chartered/changed on all of them.

If you read your cruise contract, cruiselines typically can pretty much do whatever they want. In many cases it's not even guaranteed that you will leave the port on a cruise. Of course, it's pretty bad PR to not deliver the product you sell, but it happens across the board.

I understand about changed itineraries. I'm not sure that changing people's ships entirely is the same thing though. Even with the Grandeur cancellations, they weren't just moved to another ship, they had to cancel and move their booked cruises instead of the cruise line moving them to another ship.

I guess that's what I'm saying. That's unusual to me. But it Disney. As it's pointed out, they do what they want if they can get away with it...

Thank goodness they backed out of the alcohol ban! Or they would have to drastically lower their rates like the others and bar the alcohol so you buy on board. One or the other, but not both!
