Heli dog sled alaska

Planning on bringing my dslr. I have to choose one lense-- suggest telephoto or wide angle?

18-300 is telephoto 10-40 is wide angle. Should note going directly to whale watch after and will either have to leave one lense at heliport or do without.

I think you may capture a lot of wildlife on the telephoto lens without noticing it when you're actually taking the picture. I'd suggest the telephoto.

While there is a time & a place for the wide angle lens, I would not want to look through an entire day's worth of my own pictures taken solely with the wide angle lens. Just my 2 cents, but I'm no professional. I would also consider how your pictures from a wide angle lens will look when taking them through a helicopter window. My dad did the glacier trek and his telephoto pics are great (taken from the helicopter).

EVAD is really good at pics. Maybe PM him.

AngryPenguin has amazing pics from his Alaskan cruise (Princess). He did a TR that's an active thread. His Flickr pics from Alaska are really really great. I'd PM him too.

Thank you! I just bought the wide angle. I do love the telephoto but wasn't sure what would work best on glacier. Appreciate the comment!

If the telephoto is actually an 18-300, you've got both the telephoto and the wide angle needs covered. I'd go with that as it is much more versatile than a pure wide angle zoom.
