Is watching Wishes at Calfornia Grill better than in the park?

We are going to Disney World in September and have decided that since this may be our last time, we want to try California Grill. Of course, right now there are no reservations being taken for CG due to renovations but I wanted to know this.

What makes watching the Wishes fireworks so great from the CG location? Is it just a unique experience or is it more impressive than standing underneath all of it?

Is 7:30 the time to book to catch it for a 9:00 fireworks?

Just wanting to know to find out how disappointed I should be when I fail to get a reservation due to the onslaught of all of us who are trying to dine there call and miss out on the coveted time slot!

Well--it's a "different" view. Up high of course, and off to the side.

For us, it's probably "better" than standing all bunched up standing with thousands of others in the MK. But many others find that to be the best spot.

Anyway--and hour and a half prior should be good for dinner. But you can get there later and just get up from dinner when the fireworks begin. Or get there earlier and just go back up to the restaurant when the fireworks begin (I assume that option will still be avaialble when CG reopens).

It was an amazing experience. I was crying literally with joy as I watched from the observation deck, and I was not the only one crying! It is my most major must do for our WDW trips and I can't wait for the reservations to open up for our December trip.

We do an 8/8:30 ADR for the 9pm wishes, but 7:30 should be ok too. They cover your food to keep it warn if you are eating during that time. They let you bring drinks out with you.

Enjoy!

In the early years until the mid 90's I'm thinking we would watch from the roof every trip. You didn't need to be eating there or staying there. It was a great view but being in the park you always get that "feel" revirbirating off the sidewalks. Especially the finale.
Thanks for the reminder! Onkinda the same subject anyone know when they'll start resv for the CG ?

For me, yes. Then again, I love seeing the fireworks from my table or restaurants. For example, I try to watch Wishes as frequently as possible from either' CG, 'Ohana, or Narcoosee's. Similarly, I love watching IllumiNations from Rose & Crown. It's just how my family and I prefer watching them. Others may prefer the shoulder-to-shoulder viewing in the parks.

The key word for me there Scupper is "crowd"---

But you are right that you can "feel" the fireworks a lot better at ground level.

The view from Main St is better. It's cool to see them from CG but they aren't lined up over the castle. It also gets crowded on the observation deck-not as many people as Main St but the deck is a lot smaller than Main St. The deck does clear off a lot quicker than trying to make your way through the crowds in the park.

I'm hoping they open CG and I can get an ADR for my late Aug trip but even if I do get in and see fireworks from there I also want to see Wishes from inside the park.

A side question: how about watching Wishes from the beach at the Poly? We will be seeing the fireworks from the halloween party so thinking we will watch Wishes from teh beach.

We've watched many times from the Poly and frankly it's gotten quite strange.Seems a lot more people come there than they used to but nobody really "pays attention" to them. They pipe in the music and story but you really can't hear it when it's crowded. Becoming less of a go to place IMO

I imagine they come to the Poly because it is "free" and because once it's over, no need to deal with thousands of folks rushing to leave the MK as fast as humanly possible.

I wonder tho how all the people actually GET to the Poly? Drive, bus, staying there anyway????

we didn't enjoy the fireworks so much watching them from CG.
I much prefer watching them by the castle with the crowds.

We just drive there usually. Rarely do we watch on days we are actually in the MK. If we go to the park that day we stay and watch from inside. You are right about no crowds to beat but the experience just isn't the same.

Meeee 2. I gotta be close enough to any fireworks show so that my nose bends just a micrometer with each BOOM. Want food too? Plop down a curbside in front of Casey's and drip mustard down your sock. MUSTARD! MOVE DOWN!
WISHES was meant to be viewed while standing close to the castle as one can get. For me anything else is second best. Hate seeing a flash of color and ten seconds later hearing a whimpy sounding snap. I still have a chunk of mortar shell that drifted into my jacket hood during Illuminations one December night just outside Germany.
