Booking another cruise on board

Ive read how people book their next cruise while on board to get a savings and lower deposit and OBC.....I will not be sailing for 2-3 years after this one. Can I still book and then move the date? How many times are you allowed to change it without a penality? I know on RCCL they have those future cruise certificates you can purchase--something like that will be better for us but I know that DCL does not sell those.

Yes...it's called booking a dummy cruise.

How much do you save? Can you change your dates if you change your mind?

IIRC, you get normally get a 10% discount, and it is only a 10% deposit.

You can changed the dates as long as you are outside the penalty window. Most people book them for the farthest date they can, and then adjust it to when they want to cruise.

I am pretty sure you can't add people to your stateroom.

A question I have is if you book for one ship, say the dream for a 4 night, can you switch it to a 7 night on the fantasy? I assume you would have to pay the make up deposit, but would it still be 10%?

You can add people to your stateroom. You just can't change the primary name on the reservation. We booked onboard and have added my DD and a friend so far. Discounts and credits still apply.

Yes you can change ships/itineraries/room categories/etc. Again all discounts and credits still apply. I changed my last cruise from a 4 night on the Dream to a 7 night Fantasy. If it is a more expensive cruise you do have to make up the deposit.

booking another cruise onboard

I still am wondering how many times you can switch it ? Like if we wanted to wait 3 years can I switch it 3 times without a problem?

thank you! I think 3 would be the max we would have to switch it to get to the 3 year mark. LOL If I do a 5 day Wonder (if they have that then) or another 4 day either Magic again or Dream I think I can swing the 2 years for saving and paying for it but, If we want to do a longer sail on Fantasy I will have to save up longer

Future cruise

Thanks for the info...

We leave on June 29 for our first 7 day cruise and wondered if we would end up penalized or losing money by placing a deposit on something we knew we couldn't do for several more years, but this sounds like it may work out perfectly if we can change the dates and ship if needed. I need to start looking at options so I am prepared!

I just did this. I let the rep know that I didn't know what cruise I wanted, so she booked me for Dec 2014. I have to change by Sept 2014 to be outside of the penalty window. Once 2015 itineraries open up you can book a random cruise for one of those dates as well. Of course you can change the date whenever you would like.

At this time, you may move the OBB date as often as you wish. There is rumor DCL may restrict this, though simply rumor and not a popular one, however DCL does reserve the right to change their policy on this at any time just like they did about transferring a reservation to a TA.

I know about the 10% discount, and the half off deposit, but does anyone know about the on board credit? How do they determine how much they offer you? Thanks for the info!

It's my understanding that it is based on cruise length. For our seven night it's $200. When we moved it from Sept 2014 to may 2014 DCL indicated that as long as we keep a seven night the OBC will not change.

So if I book a 3 night and change to a 7 night at a later date, will my obc increase?
