Realistically, how many suitcases do you take on a 7 night cruise? We are a family of 4 and it's our first cruise.

Usually one per person, plus our dive bag. It's too hard to handle more than that. And now that all the airlines (except Southwest) charge for bags, we'll probably try to cut down.

For a father and 16 year old son we take one large and one carry on size. My son also carries his backpack for his snacks, my book and the paperwork. We leave a little room in the large one for extra things coming back.

Well, since all of our cruises have been no shorter than 7 nights, our packing is pretty much the same. For DH & I, we each take one checked (rolling) bag and one carry on.

That's also what we packed for our 24 night B2B cruise as well as our 19 night Alaska Cruise/tour.

We pretty much pack the same for every trip.

We take one suitcase and rolling duffle each. We take our own snorkel gear (in the rolling duffle).
We also take a carry on bag for the plane.

For a family of 3, we typically do a garment bag (for formal/semi-formal wear), and either 2 carry-on size suitcases or a medium roller bag and a carry-on size. All three of us also bring a backpack/bag of some sort. We've packed this way for cruises of 7-14 nights. Minux the garment bag, it's also what we took for 3 weeks driving in California last summer!

If we fly, we're more likely to pack in more carry-on sized bags (even if we have to check a garment bag), even if that means more bags overall. Unless we don't have free checked bags for flying (Southwest, status on AA, etc) - then we try to stick to carry-ons only (and yes, I've packed a formal gown in a carry-on! ) - which means small roller bag + personal item (backpack) each.

We pack a suitcase for each of us and a carryon for 7-night cruises. On our week in DL & 15-night PC repo we had 2 suitcases and a carryon each. This is for 2A2K. I don't do laundry on vacation.
