We have always had ground floor rooms - not by request...just happened that way.

Our first stay at POR was in AB, and by the end of the week, we were SOOO glad we had a first floor room. The stairs would have done us in!

We've learned that we like the first floor - not dealing with stairs or elevators - just feels quicker to us. Depending on location, it can also lesson the number of people that walk by your room.

However - at POR, PoP and CSR, we could always hear the people walking above us. At POR, we had a toddler above us for a few days - we knew exactly when they were up as the toddler ran around the room constantly...and the must have had 8:05 breakfast rezs every day....as they were up early. I sleep with ear plugs, becasue I'm a light sleeper - otherwise, that would have been annoying to me.

We have stayed on the ground level at various resorts in the past and no issues. My sister absolutely refuses to stay in a ground level room. She has visions in her head of mousekeeping keeping the door to the room propped open for uninvited guests. She thinks there is a greater chance on the ground floor of a snake coming in.

We are going on a trip to Disney in October together. Oh how I would enjoy getting a fake snake in her room!!!

I'm hoping for a ground room at WL.

I really love having a patio, especially when we've stayed at the Poly.

We arrived at AoA at 9:30 am and were told our room was ready. Dd had just said that she did not want a ground floor room because of snakes. The cast member told her that they do not have much problem with that. After a 21 hour drive I was more than willing to take my chances. Yes I do know that snakes have gotten into rooms but the odds are against it.

I had a ground floor room at GF, POFQ and two at POR. No creepy crawlies or anything in any room.

My "pool view" room at POR had trees blocking the view though, I would have paid for standard and get the same. Our garden view room (when we got moved due to water in our room) had a better view from the ground floor. If actually seeing the pool is important, ask for a higher floor, if it's actually the proximity to the pool you like, ground floor is great!

I always request a ground floor room. My thinking is this. I can usually hear the people above us a some point and that does not bother me. Kids making noise doesn't bother me either. I just don't want my kids to make noise and bother someone under us. My kids are not rough kids but they are kids that at some point are stuck in a hotel room. One less thing to fuss at them about.

Another thing, all of our visits were first floor. No creepy crawlies for us either.

I've requested NOT ground floor on my solo trips, and this is exactly my thought process, too. (Although I'm not keen on Creepy Crawlies, either.)

For me...

Pros of ground floor: no hassle with stairs/elevator, don't have to worry about being noisy with people before you.

Pros of high floor: less foot traffic, can see more from your window/balcony, no one above you (if on top floor), less chance of unwanted creepy visitors (of the bug/reptile variety).

I will say that the housekeepers leave the doors open while they clean so I have heard stories of those little lizards getting into rooms. Sure it can happen on any floor, but much more inclined for it to happen on the ground floor with the bushes being just a foot from the doors. But, even on the top floors, any kind of bug (like love bugs) can get into the rooms too with the doors open while they are cleaning.

I stayed at WL and was on the ground floor. The one thing I loved about it was being able to walk out the balcony and maybe 20 feet and getting in the pool.

The only down side was you don't get much of a view. So you have to weigh what you would rather have. Convenience vs. a nice view...

I've been on ground floor and second floor at POR and have never seen any creepy crawlers in the rooms. However I prefer the second floor because you can hear the people using the toilet on the second floor when you are on the first. It's like they are in the room with you! And closing the bathroom door does not help.

We stayed at POR many years ago before the renovation. We were in the back of the mansion section in acadian house. There was a frog stuck to our door for a night but he didn't get in. He was actually sort of cute. We were on the first floor.

We stayed on the ground floor at ASMu and I loved it. So convenient. We never had an issue with unwanted guest. I did find the noise level a little higher but I didn't really care too much.

I've requested not to be on ground floor on my solo trips , too. Don't know if it really matters, but I feel better. I hadn't really thought about creepy crawlies though

I've had ground floor rooms at WDW more than 20 times... never an issue with crawlys but never thought about it either! Given that mousekeeping leaves the door open for a half hour, I will now be thinking about it more.... thanks a lot

But I think it would be FUN to have a duck wander in. Until he poops.
