Questions about Tom Sawyer's Island

I love TSI, but don't know it's history too well. I had a few questions about it

1) when did they stop the paint brush thing
2) Are the rafts the original rafts?
3) any other trivia would be appreciated

Whoops. Wrong place to put this. Can a mod move this to Theme Park Attractions and Strategies?

Sorry

Thanks Mesa...

Was there a reason for this? I mean, it is not like it really cost anything and people seemed to like it...

Various theories. One is that too many people knew about it and did it expressly for the FastPasses. Another is that it became too much of a sport and guests were somewhat rude to each other about them and "ruined it" for others. A third is that FastPasses gotten this way would throw the whole FP enforcement and upcoming FP+ systems off of their axes. Might be one of these, might be some of these, might be all if these. Might be something else entirely.

Yeah..probably one of those ideas.
It seemed like a good idea (hiding the brushes) but maybe change the "prize" to something less "valuable"...like a sticker or a small certificate... I dunno...I guess the time has come and gone.

I love the Island.

It's probably related to varying degrees to all three reasons you mentioned. I've never actually seen people being rude to each other over the paint brushes but I'm sure it happened. If we ever found more than one brush (we would separate so we would not know if someone else in our family found one) we would give it to another family who was still searching. I can see that it became problematic for the cast members though. People would be lined up early and you had to get on the first raft in order to have a chance of finding one. It was good fun though and I really enjoyed how it connected with the story of Tom Sawyer. I will miss the paint brushes

That's so we went on our 1st Disney World trip in Nov. 2011 & found a paint brush we had such a good time & the cast members were amazing about the fast passes we were coming back this Nov. & my son wanted to do this again.
