My 'not over the door' shoe hanger solution

Hi all,

Just off the Wonder and thought I'd share my solution for having a shoe hanger rack in the bathroom without it being 'over the door'. I took the dowel rod left over from my FE and tied it with ribbon, also left over, to my usual shoe hanger to keep it sturdy across the top. Then I hung the dowel from the robe hook on the inside of the bathroom door, same place it was before. Worked perfectly. I was afraid it would 'wobble'/slide/slant and thought I might use magnets to hold, but no need. I also figure it's perfectly fine to hang something with ribbon from a hook meant to hang something. 4 people in a one bathroom room makes that rack verrrrry useful for me!

I use my old Fish Extender when I travel. It is dated with a room number, so I don't use it as a Fish Extender anymore.

But I do use it on the bath towel rod for a little extra room in the bathroom. Not as large as the one shown here, but it does give a little extra room.

Plus it packs nicely in the side pocket of the suitcases.

Great idea to add a dowel rod to it. I need to get my organizer out tonight & do that. Even if, for some reason, they asked us not to hang it from the hook on the door, I think that the dowel would help hang it in the closet.

Great idea. THIS hanging shoe organizer can be used on the shower rod or hung from the knob on the back of the door. There are 12 pockets, which is plenty for me.

As much as I like the idea I just worry that DCL may claim damage to the doors even if your solution doesn't.

Brilliant! I'm also thinking you could ad one of those felt pads to the back of the dowel as well so there's no chance the wood could scratch the paint.

Thanks so much for sharing your creative solution!!

Just FYI, there isn't a shower rod, at least on the Wonder. It's a recessed track that the clips go up into.

Also, to the people who were afraid it could scratch, the dowel is actually held out from the door just a bit by the ribbon tied around it, so the wood didn't touch the door at all!

One thing I forgot to mention is that this made my shoe bag about a row too long on the bottom since it hung much lower, so it drug the floor. It didn't really hurt anything, but I may cut it off for next time.

On the Magic also, you can see a little of the track in this photo:

This is a FANTASTIC solution!! Thanks for posting it.

I also thought about potential damage done by the dowel rod rubbing against the door. But maybe it can be finagled so that the dowel is in the front instead of the back/against the door? You coud wrap the ribbon around the dowel then through the eye and tied on top. So the ribbon in front of the dowel goes through to the back of the eye and the ribbon from the back of the dowel goes in front and they tie at the top. This would, in effect, "lock" the dowel in front so it can't slip up and over against the door. KWIM?
