New Cabins?

My family visited Ft Wilderness June 2012 for the umpteenth time! We love everything about Ft Wilderness!

One morning my sister & I were enjoying our morning coffee on our deck! As usual, each cast member who passed by waved & said "Good Morning"! One gentleman stopped & visited with us for a while. He was asking the normal questions.....were we enjoying ourselves, was everything satisfactory, etc. He then went on to tell us that Disney was about to start the process of changing out the cabins for new ones. He also stated that there would be 2 bedroom cabins coming! That really excited us, as we usually have to get 2 cabins for all of us. He said the cabins should be ready to rent by the end of 2013!

Since we retd hem, we have. To been able to find any information pertaining to what he told us. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Just curious.

I haven't heard this but a 2 bedroom cabin sounds like something people will enjoy.

It would be certainly easy to do.

In this case they actually can just swap out the rooms (unlike the urban legend that they can swap out all the rooms in the Contemporary in one day with a crane).

Unless they had to reconfigure the pads for a larger unit (two bedrooms) I would think it would only take a day or two per site. Since they can spec the manufacturing, all the utilities could still line up as long as they kept the same general layout.

Would be nice if they had queen sized beds in them!

Problem is they are only so wide so if they had a queen there would be very little room for another bed.

The guy told us the new cabins would be "L" shaped with 2 bedrooms. That would be awesome!

Does anyone who has ever been to Disney doubt there will be a substantial price increase...at least for the 2 BR., and probably a modest one for the replacement 1 BR.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/re...t/rates-rooms/

I was checking availability for Christmas week. They now list having 2 double beds and 1 bunk bed. It doesn't mention the Murphy bed at all. The pictures show the 1 room with the double bed next to the bunk beds. It then shows a picture of another double bed. There still seems to be only one bathroom though--I guess that was too much to ask for!?!? I'm not complaining 2 beds is nice.

I may be missing something but I don't see two real double beds in any of the pics. I see a double, a set of bunk beds and the Murphy bed in the up position. Same thing as when a stayed there 14 years ago when the cabins were new.

I would think the 2 BR would have to be more since its most likely more sq footage. As for the regular ones I really don't think so since it more of a refurb issue.

Now this may not be the case but when we stayed in '99 they had just finished replacing all the FW Homes with FW Cabins. The homes were leased from Fleetwood. Its possible they did the same for the Cabins and now if it was a 15 year lease they would have to start thinking about replacing them all now to be done by the end of 2014.

Chartle, you raise an interesting point.

The current cabins may be nearing the end of their useful tax/IRS depreciation life. That would trigger their replacement.

IIRC, conventional homes have a 40 year tax life for straight line depreciation purposes (or 37.5, can't remember). I would think the cabins (which are single wides essentially) don't have the same lifespan as a conventional home.

Please keep your jokes about me bein' from Bama and knowing about single wide trailers to yerself. I have to deal with that with my extended family.

1. When were the Homes installed? If it was 83 to 84 that would also seem like they also had a 15 year lease. It may not be a depreciation issue maybe just a contract issue. The old homes got reused and they are now in a 50+ community near WDW. I just remember reading the Jeff Spencer FW site and at the start of my planning they were in the process of being replaced and by the time we went it was done.

2. I'm from Pittsburgh so we have a different perspective on the issue.
