Tipping baggage handlers

I want to make sure I get the tipping right this time I understand $1-3 per bag, but have just a few questions. When we arrive on ME, our bags "magically" show up later in our room. Do I tip someone and how do I know who? We are doing our first split stay and will have Disney move our bags. Do I tip the person we drop them off with? How do I know who to tip when we arrive at BCV? I want the person who is doing the work to get the tip!

Thanks for any help! I searched but too many things showed up 3 more days and I'm getting my tips together!

$1 to $3 per bag???!!! I've never heard that. Is that written somewhere? When we unload, we have about 10 to 15 smaller bags between the 6 of us. There's no way I'm giving them $45 or even $15 to unload my bags and put them on a cart.

We usually give $5 to unload them and another $5 to $10 to have them delivered. Because of the way Disney does the unloading/valet then transfer to Bellman process, you have to deal with two different people. So if it were one person doing all of the work, maybe it would be $10 to $15 for one person.

I don't know, I've just never heard of a set dollar amount per bag.

ETA... I don't know if they pool tips and then split it or not, I would imagine they do. So it's irrelevant who you give the money to I think. But I could be wrong. In your case, I would tip whoever you have "face" contact with. If you drop your bags off to only one person and then they show up in your room "magically", I would tip that one person.

I generally do $1-2 per bag or $10 when it is the whole family. If the bags "magically" appear (ours have been left in our room while we went to get food) I wouldn't worry about not tipping...it happens .

Tipping guidelines rarely are actually printed as a set of rules anywhere, but in most situations, tipping a baggage handler at the airport or a bellman in a hotel does run between $1 to $3 per bag. I usually go with a dollar per, though admittedly, if we have three or four smallish bags (a park mini-pack or a little gym bag), I don't tip for each of those. Then again, I usually carry smaller items with me. Usually, we have two large suitcases, a garment bag, and a few smaller items. I keep a $5 bill on me that works just fine.

We do a $1+ per bag/item (case of water, backpack of school books, etc). If we leave our room and know that they will magically appear while we are gone, I leave the money on the luggage rack.

Disney takes care of tips for bags delivered via DME.

Thanks for the quick responses! So for my party of 5 tip $10 @ SSR when we drop bags at bell services and $10 at BCV when we arrive. Then $10 when we check them at the resort for departure. Think I got it I never carry cash so want to be prepared!

My DW will read this and say, "See, we are not the only ones."

OP, there is not set rule for tipping. $10 dollars both leaving one resort and arriving arriving at another would likely be high to many and good to others. You can easily go half that or something in between. Note, there is no additional tip to anyone who just leaves your bags in your room when you are not there.

I am sorry but for this much stuff I think the minimum tip is $20.

$5 to unload all of that is too cheap.

Most people say (and I've read it on etiquette things as well) - $1-$2 per bag. We do that +$5 for our Owner's Locker, once in a while $10 for that, depending on how much cash we have.

That's what we do. We often handle our own bags, so if all we need bell services for is our wonderful Owners Locker, we tip $5.00. If we have them handle other luggage we tip $1 per bag, but never under $5.00.

ditto....but we would rather be over tipping rather than under. the few bucks saved is about the cost of a snack - i would rather give it to someone working for a living

While there are no rules, if you look at a number of etiquette sites (I'd stay with non Disney one's to avoid the bias that's crept in), You'll see generally $1-3 per bag but there is a lot of variability and it's ultimately up to one's discretion. The standard it to tip at the destination of the bags such as the room on arrival and car on departure. Personal experience and the service itself should determine much of the tip amount and situation.
