So, if i wanted a new hobby...

I just KNOW the thread I want is somewhere, but I've looked through the forum, and I can't seem to find it. Those who have been here for years, I'm sure you've had to answer this a million times...

So, pin trading looks fun, but I'd never even heard of it before I came to the boards. Is there a sort of "quick start" guide to help me get started?

I bought pins as souvenirs from my last trip (2004), but I never knew it was this whole thing...

Again, apologies for not being able to find the answer I'm sure is out there.

you can find all your info on ODPT.com Official Disney Pin Trading dot com. It's a great place to find upcoming pins, new releases, events, past pins...and info on how it works.

I've now spent a fun evening with Google. A few quick questions.

Do all the CMs wearing pin lanyards trade? Or is there some sort of sign or something?

And what's this with "pin sharks" and private tables, and not trading in DTD?

Will people try to approach me if I'm wearing a pin lanyard? They didn't 10 years ago, but who knows. (On the other hand ... I can't remember if I actually wore the thing while in the parks, or just put the pins on afterward!)

Should I leave the pins I want to keep at home, so people don't try to trade me for them? (Assuming random strangers will)

ETA: Google helps again - I just found out there's a Twin Cities Pin Trading group. So I'll probably go to one of their meets, and bug them with all my questions.

In DLR CM's wear lanyards because they want to, in WDW I believe they are told to.

some pin traders are out for money more than fun, some traders want more in trade then I am willing to give, I call them sharks. LOL I know nothing about private tables or not trading in DTD as no private tables are available in DL and we do trade in DTD.

possibly, I have people approach me and ask to see my pins, sometimes I trade, sometimes I don't. It's entirely up to you.

Should I leave the pins I want to keep at home, so people don't try to trade me for them? (Assuming random strangers will)
I wear pins that aren't for trade on my lanyard, if someone asks I simply tell them they aren't for trade. Never been an issue, after all they are mine to trade or not. lol

I hope I helped.

Last time I went to WDW, was only my second time trading.
I eventually ended up with pins I was "unwilling" to trade but still wanted to show off. I took to putting my keepers on one side of my lanyard and traders on the other.
