St. Maarten -shopping and excursion?

Hoping to get some advice re: how to plan our St. Maarten day. Traveling with DH,DD(9) and DS (7) on Fantasy on June 15. I'd like to do some shopping (esp Jewellry), so want to allow enough time for this, but would also like to plan some beach fun for the kids - snorkeling would be great, or just beach play would be ok. Any advice on how to achieve both? Looking at Afternoon beach bash tour or French Riviera beach rendezvous but would this allow shopping time on either end of the day? Are these excursions any good? Other ideas?? Shopping tips/destinations also welcome . Thanks!!

The afternoon beach bash leaves at 1:30 so you will have all morning to go to the stores in Philipsburgh. It is about a 15 minute walk from the dock or you can take a taxi or water taxi. We are planning to do the same thing in July.

Thanks. Have you done the afternoon beach bash excursion before? Also is the shopping district primarily in Philipsburgh? Haven't been there before so still trying to figure the whole thing out!

This will be our first cruise to St. Maarten, but we spent a week at a hotel in Philipsburg a few years ago (minus kids). We enjoyed the Orient Bay beach when we were there before so we signed up for the afternoon beach bash with our kids this time. For information on Philipsburg, you can check out http://www.philipsburg-info.com

We are doing Orient Beach on our June 1st cruise. It's lovely there. You can rent chairs, they have restaurants, etc. We are going to take a taxi there in the morning and arrange a pick up time. Then we will get dropped off downtown for some shopping! . You can either walk back to the ship or take the water taxi.

Sounds like a great plan, thanks!

Have you looked into Maho Beach? Hands down, our favorite beach experience! The beach is right by the St. Maarten airport and the planes go right over your head. We took a taxi there and sat at the restaurant/bar, but there was also seating on the actual beach. The kids are still talking about that beach.

Maho beach is awesome! Here is my video from there. Gets real exciting 50 seconds in.
