NYC Disney Store closed for refurb - anyone have any news?

Hello all,

My fiance and I periodically make a visit to the Disney Store whenever we need a Dis-pick-me-up, and yesterday it was closed with a Wreck It Ralph refurb sign that said it was opening again on May 11th. We went about two months ago, and the whole lower level was closed, but now the whole thing is unavailable to the public.

Anyone know what they're planning in terms of the refurb? As there aren't any more Disney Stores in Manhattan, we can't wait for this to be up and running again!

Thank goodness. I hated that new store. It was horribly set up. I would love ittogoback to a WOD store! I have not heard anything yet.

The one in Times Square? It was a horrible store, wish they would bring back the collectibles, etc.

Maybe Ralph wrecked it? If he were smart he would. That store was awful, and compared to the old WOD store of Fifth, it was sad and depressing.

I understand the need for a Disney pick-me-up, but everytime I go into a Disney Store it leaves me depressed. The old WOD store on Fifth had a genuine Disney feel to it.

Wow, I didn't even know about this. I also didn't like this store. The first time I went in, I kept looking for a 3rd floor. Because I couldn't believe that was it.

I totally agree with all of you - the Times Square store is an unfair trade for what we had on 5th. Partly because I need to protect my already broken heart, I really don't think we're getting anything close to the WOD we had, but my hopes are high for any sort of improvement. We need some more magic in NYC.

With the Disney Broadway shows they are missing a great opportunity with a good store nearby.

I sure hope its a goes back to a Disney Parks store. The one that was on 5th was awesome. Times Square store was SUCH a disappointment.

We asked the cast members last time we were in the store (and only the first floor was closed.) They said that the store didn't know, that whoever set up the refurb wanted "everyone to be surprised." Cute answer, but we didn't really buy it - when I started this thread I was secretly hoping a NYC store cast member would chime in with some insider info

Question Here's what I know

I've asked construction workers and have been given conflicting information. I do know that they lowered the ceiling on the ground floor. First I was told that this was done because of a ventilation problem. Later I was told that they were adding a new level between the first and second - hence the Wreck-It-Ralph sign outside "Taking It To A New Level". I was by the store yesterday and peeked in. I saw a new Mickey sign at the foot of the escalator and what looked like a Minnie statue hanging over the first level sales floor. The workman I spoke with said that there was not a new level, just the ground and upper floors.

I doubt that we'll ever get back what we lost on 5th Avenue, which by the way is still empty after all these years. We all miss WOD.

I'm not a fan of that store, the old one was 100x better. If you really need a fix there's a Disney store in the Queens Center Mall. They remodeled that one this past winter.

Don't know how the Times Square store will look, but they did a very nice job expanding at Queens Center Mall. I live close by and go there often. I hope that the Times Square Store distinguishes itself from other stores or, better than that, becomes a WOD.
