Help! Which cruise option is Better?

I'm trying to decide between 2 very different vacation options. Please Help Me!

1) 7 Night Western Caribbean Cruise

Ship: Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas

Visits:
- Roatan Honduras
- Belize City Belize
- Cozumel Mexico

Departure Port: Galveston, Texas

Date: December 15-22, 2013

Price: $4,000 (Family of 8)

2) 4 Nights Universal Studios Orlando + 3 Night Bahamas Cruise

Ship: Disney's Disney Dream

Visits:
- Nassau Bahamas
- Castaway Cay

Departure Port: Port Canaveral, Florida

Date: March 09-16, 2014

Price: ~$6,000 ( Family of 8)

BTW:

- We will be driving to the cruise port, which means we will only drive 6 hours to get to Galveston and 21 Hours to get to Florida.

- We've never been to a cruise or to Universal.

- We are big Disney fans and have been to WDW about 6 times.

- Our family's ages are 14,16,18,19,21,23,50,& 63. As you can see, I think we're getting too old for Disney, but i mean idk, because like i said before, we've never been to a Disney Cruise (or any other type of cruise)

So, which Vacation Option is Better?

Thanks!

Even though you guys are huge disney fans I would go with the 7 night RCC cruise. At $4000 and only 6 hours to drive for a family of 8 that is by far a better value. Plus there will be added food cost when at Universal for taht family of 8. Increasing the total cost of your Disney vacation by a decent amount. Lastly, you are an older family so the Disney extra's won't be a big added benefit to make up for the cost difference. Your family will be just as happy with the 7 day RCC and definitely more relaxed.

If you decide to go with the RCCL cruise you will find the boards at cruise critic to be very helpful with all your planning.

I think I might go with RCCL Navigator. I sailed Navigator in 2011...and had a great time. Nice ship with the rock wall and ice rink.....plus the royal promenade with entertaining parades that I think even the older kids would enjoy.

I'd go with the 7 night, a 3 night cruise is too short to give you a good taste of cruising.

Yep, I'm with the PP. Even though I've only ever sailed Disney, a 7-night cruise would always be better than a 3-night (which is better than no cruise at all!). Plus the shorter distance to drive will make the trip more enjoyable. Maybe you can try Disney for your next cruise once you find out if cruising is for you or not.

Did a 7 night Carnival in Feb/Mar. Did 3 day DCL Dream last week with tacking on a fun hopping park day. That 3 day was amazing and really all I could take off. From my standpoint and strictly IMHO I would do 3 Days on DCL than anyone else's 7 day. I'm gonna save up n use points but if money becomes n option, I would still book a 3 day with a day or two of WDW in a new York second. If that's what u can afford, you won't be disappointed or at least I wouldn't!

Go for the longer cruise. The shortest cruise that we have taken was the 4 day Disney Wonder. It is just too short. Even my 11 year old son has been asking to go on a longer cruise since we got back. There is plenty to do on the Navigator to keep you busy the whole time. My favorite part of cruising with teens is that since we all turn off our phones it gives us a chance to reconnect without constant disturbances. The shows may not be as good as Disney But the Royal Caribbean staff is just as dedicated.

I agree with PP. Go with the longer and closer cruise. We just did a 4 night on the Magic out of Galveston. It was WAY too short, esp. since it took us 6 hours of flying to get there. We spent two whole days traveling and only 4 nights on the ship. Never again. Considering you are so close to Galveston already, I would go that route with the longer 7 night cruise. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

I would go on royal Caribbean. Closer to port plus $2000 price difference. I prefer longer cruises. The minimum we will o is 7 night. It is much more relaxing

I totally agree! I've only cruised w/ DCL, and we are going again in Sept, for 4 nights this time. NOTHING compares to Dis! It's just like WDW. We've gone to Universal, Busch Gardens and Sea World many times, but there's just no comparison. I'd def take a shorter time at Dis than a longer time some place else!

We went on the Voyager of the Seas (sister ship) and had an amazing time. Though the ship was not new (I was comparing it to the Dream) we had the best food and wait staff on the dining room we have ever had, even on Disney. Adult nightlife was better as well, or at least more people were out having fun. We are so excited for our upcoming Fantasy cruise, but we really enjoy RCCL too! I would definitely choose 7 days over 3.

I've sailed on the Navigator of the Seas, and it's wonderful. I would go on the 7-night RCI cruise.

Another option is Caribbean Princess. Will be sailing out of Mayport , Tx about 46 miles closer to Houston. On Houston Ship channel. Very nice ship. http://www.vacationstogo.com/fastdeal.cfm?deal=10924

I would go with cruise out of Texas. Universal ain't WDW. 18 and up on DCL is in adult activities execpt liquor. The DCL Wonder will be sailing out of Galveston untill end of 2013. We did Magic out of Galveston.
