There were literally HUNDREDS in the road throughout the whole mountains during the night starting around West Virginia, and there were so many twists and turns that we had to go 50mph or less and really came close to hitting them multiple times. We won't drive at night again for this reason, at least not around this time of year.
We didn't have any problems with deer but I did all the night driving & going through the mountains in the rain at night is NOT FUN!!! That is another big reason I want to get a hotel half way.

Can't remember just what town it is in, but the Bates hotel is very nice to stay and grap a shower in, and for a nite of pleasure.

We drive down to Florida from Wisconsin a couple times a year. One place i would recommend is the Hampton Inn in Dalton, GA. Plenty of options for food and a pretty good hotel.

If anyone stops in Macon, GA on the way down, I want to suggest two exits. The bass road exit in north macon is perfect. There is a bass pro shop, chickfila, zaxbys, publix, and a very nice hotel that stays packed. It's called home wood suites by Hilton. This is the safer side of town. The other exit is on 475 called Zebulon rd. There's a few hotels to choose from, krogers, buffaloes, chickfila, walmart, Krystal, sonics etc. DO NOT stop in south Macon. Riverside/Tom hill/Arkwright area are also nicer and safe. If you don't want to stay there keep going and stay in Warner Robins, Byron or perry. All safer areas than south and east macon.

we usually drive straight through - but this year we are stopping in Valdosta GA. We found a brand new Drury Inn for $60 a night. they offer free drinks and light dinner at 5:30pm and a full hot breakfast in the morning.

We have driven from Chicago and stop just past Warner Robbins. There are Country Inn & Suites and similar all along I75. We leave home around 3am and stop around 7pm ish. That way we dont have as far to go in the a.m.

Good luck and have fun!!

We drive from Toledo, and have stopped in Chattanooga...as a good half-way point. Last Year, my daughter was wanting to visit a friend in Atlanta, so we drove down to Atlanta, met her friend, had dinner, etc, and then proceeded to a Hampton in Macon, I think, Mercer University area. It is south of Atlanta, which helped us avoid the Atlanta rush hour traffic in the morning. Made the trip a bit shorter for us that day.

In Dalton, GA, there is a Hampton Inn. It is by an IHop and some outlet shops I think. It isn't cheap but we stopped there on our way back home one trip when it started pouring rain. It is a nice place.

Holiday Inn Express in Ringold, GA. We also lived in Michigan, and don't like to drive straight thru. And Bonus, there was a indoor pool and a Pizza Hut right across the street! We were coming from Orchard Lake, MI.
