We have been to Nassau twice on DCL. The first time, we took a glass bottom boat tour. We didn't enjoy it. The idea is coll, but we didn't get to see much, and the kids got bored quickly. The second time we just got off the ship and wandered around the shopping area. It was so much more fun. We went into all the shops we could never afford, LOL!!! We bought shirts for the kids, that we could afford... Then we sat in Señor Frogs, which was fun!!! We sat on the deck, had some cold, fruity drinks and taking pics of the ships in the harbor!!!most fun for very little $$$$$.

Been to Nassau once; DH booked a golf excursion so I was on my own with DS and DNe both 14 at the time. I had decided in advance that we'd go to the Adestara Zoo and we just caught a cab to there from the pier. On the way back we had the cabbie drop us off downtown and we went through the Pirate Museum and then made the short walk back to the ship through the straw market. We really enjoyed our day and at no time did I feel unsafe just me and the children. There was a lot of semi-reckless street traffic and the vendors were "a little" aggressive, which I guess could put you off if you're especially timid, but I certainly recommend giving it a shot at least.

EDITED TO ADD FOR n8nally: Nassau is no dirtier, smellier or "ruder" than any other island destination in particular - St. Thomas is filthy with garbage everywhere and St. Lucia had the most hideously aggressive, scary beach vendors of anyplace I've ever been. Nassau was like a warm, fuzzy hug in comparison, and IMHO, the ENTIRE state of Florida smells like a wet dog.
