While I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your information, be prepared to have your post torn apart because you said "got some good info". Normally this only occurs if you use the words confirmed, official or guaranteed. You will be told that unless your source is Bob Iger or Walt's ghost than you don't have good info and hearing info from a Disney bus driver or any other CM for that matter doesn't make the info "good".

With Iger on the way out, I don't doubt for a minute they will be spending big money on the parks.

It this is rumor or fact, only time will time.

There is no way TDO would slap that kind on $$ down.

We can only hope it's true at this point. There certainly seems to be a lot of buzz around about them spending money on the parks. Where and what seem to be the big options.

I do see the theory behind needing to do some updating to compete with all the new attractions at US/IOA. I still see them as different experiences, but if they want to continue the increases they are seeing in attendance, something will have to be added.

The expansion project at Disneyland's California Adventure to remodel Buena Vista Street and add Cars Land had a price tag of I think $1.1 billion. So if Disney World were to undertake big projects at each of the four existing parks, a $2.6 billion price tag wouldn't be that excessive.

But however appealing the thought of such projects is, without a reliable source to point to it's just another rumor.

I'm wondering about the Future world revamp you are suggesting. What specifics did you hear about this? And who are your sources, if you don't mind my asking?

I'd love to see all of these things happen at the parks.

$600 million (MK) + $600 million (DAK) + $400 million (Ep) + $1,000 million (DHS) = $2.6 billion.

$2.6 billion over a 6-year period = $433 million per year. That's not an unreasonable or unrealistic number. And it includes Avatar Land, which is already underway (in the form of moving the Festival of the Lion King).

Consider that over the past 6 years, the Disney Parks & Resorts business segment spent many billions on the DCA re-do, two mega-ships for DCL, Aulani in Hawaii, DVC resorts at WDW, and the new Fantasyland at MK.

I seem to recall that Disney Parks & Resorts capital spending is around $1 billion per year. In recent years, the parks at WDW have not seen major spending, with the exception of MK. It's time for them to catch up.

Even if the Disney Parks & Resorts business segment spends an additional $200 million per year for the parks in California on top of $433 million per year for WDW, Disney could actually be cutting back on capital spending.

I'm not saying that the OP's rumor is absolutely accurate, but it's realistic. I wouldn't dismiss it just based on the numbers. Chances are that Disney wants to make big announcements at the D23 Expo, so we'll know a lot more then.

The budget for nextgen was rumoured to be over 1 billion - so that doesnt leave that much for everything else.

Good point. I didn't even include NextGen/"My Magic Plus" in my list of spending over the past six years.

Most of the big projects over the past six years were made under Jay Rasulo's leadership of Disney Parks & Resort. Although Thomas Staggs has been Chairman of the Disney Parks & Resorts business segment since January 2010, the pipeline was full of projects initiated under Rasulo's watch. In the next six years, we're going to see how Staggs sees the future. It's telling that Staggs pulled the plug on Rasulo's plans to spend Disney Parks & Resorts capital on a Disney hotel near Washington, DC. Let's hope that means a focus back on the six Disney parks in the U.S.

I think what is a likely motivator is that domestic tourism spending saw a pretty big increase this year, and it's projected to go up or remain steady.

So it's likely the purse strings might loosen up a little.
