Chartered my cruise! Magic 12/8/13

Got a call from dcl earlier. The 12/8/13 Magic sailing is now a charter. I have to call them to see about choosing another date. It was supposed to give us our Grand Slam. Grrr.

Sorry to hear that. (I was a little worried since we are on the Dream that leaves the same day.) What happens now? Good luck.

That stinks!!! Our first few cruises were that week in December. The prices were great. Have they made you any offers for giving you OBC or paying the price of the cruise you switch to as of the date you made your original booking?

It means a company has bought out the entire ship and anyone who has a current reservation can't go on that cruise.

Wow, I wonder what that costs? I'd love to work for that company!
Not only are they willing to shell out the cost of the cruise, but also give employees the time off to go. Sweet!

I work in a hospital; it wouldn't happen here in a million years...

What a bummer, I agree with PPs that it "STINKS".

But for what's it's worth, as a Grand Slammer in good standing, I would consider you a Grand Slammer (once 12/8 passes) under rule 311-3a (it's the DCL screwed you rule)

Seems unfair to boot booked cruisers just because someone decided to charter the same cruise. We had considered this cruise because it falls on my DS's birthday. I'm glad now we had a change of plans!

This seems to happen every year. There is nothing you can do about it unfortunately.

If you think that is bad, DCL screwed my friend who was getting married on the 9/29/13 sailing of the Dream. She had it booked, a lot of her guests had it booked, then they decided to make it a DVC members cruise less than a year before sailing. This has affected the guest list as now a few people she really want there can't make it on the rebooked date. It so sucked. We are making the best of it, but this has left a small sour taste in my mouth with DCL.

OP: I feel for you. We were booked on the same cruise as aan1701. DCL seems to do this several times a year anymore. It is very frustrating, especially if you have already had to select vacation times, etc.... We had one set of ladies from England who had already purchased their airfare for the Sept 29th cruise and couldn't change it without penalty, so now they're doing WDW instead. It would be nice of DCL got their act together. Blocked a couple of 4 night cruises from the beginning to keep for charters. Then if they don't sell as charter, open them to the public instead of the other way around. It really stinks that they cancel people who are already booked and ready to go.

This is definitely a trend and DCL doesn't seem to care about how it affects its guests. The past year has been the worst for changes of itineraries, and with the Wonder even departing ports when they cancelled the last of the MR cruises and moved the ship from LA to TX. They then revised the cruise schedule for the Wonder for this year a second and third time trying to figure out what mix would fill the ship. Remember the last Med cruise that was chartered -- after of course all of the revisions to the itineraries for the Med cruises that summer. That happened just months before the cruise so DCL offered to reimburse penalties for changing flights or deposits that were not refundable because people had already made plane and hotel reservations.

IMO, there is no excuse for not scheduling a DVC member cruise before dates are released.

I couldn't agree with you more & I'm a DVC member. I just find it hard to believe (but then again maybe not so hard to believe as seems to happen more & more) that they can't work out the DVC dates before they release the "New Dates" to the public. Oh well what can you do.. "Death, Taxes & DCL changes"
