We get two days during the first week of November for a statewide teacher's convention (aka "Jersey Week" which is crazy crowded at WDW).

The past two years, though, we've had an unexpected week off at the end of October/beginning of November thanks to a freak ice/snow storm in 2011 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012. I joked last year that we should just plan vacation that week.

What's a fall break and where can I get one?! (I'm a teacher by the way.)

I think we are getting October 31 and November 1 off next school year...or the kids are. We have staff development.

We are "year round" and have Sept 19-Oct 7 for fall break. The traditional calendar in our county has no break. This will be our last year in year round before DD goes to middle school, so we are taking advantage with 8 days at WDW.

We've never had a Fall Break where we live. Last time the school board considered it, the teachers union was against it, saying they preferred a larger block of time in the summer.

That is the complete opposite of us and we are just across the bridge. We are going to a balanced calender and most teachers are quite excited for the extra breaks.

Appears most of IN is going to the balanced calender and going to WDW. Maybe we should call it Hoosierville instead of WDW for October.

Haha, love it! Let's go! Sadly, our district hasn't mentioned going to a balanced calendar. We are west central Indiana. No one here ever likes change. And maybe that's why the flight prices are going up!

Our "fall break" is Thanksgiving week. Then, another 2 weeks for winter break at the end of Dec/beginning of Jan.
2011 they got one day off in Oct, but not last or this year.

No fall break out here, and there never has been as far as I'm aware. The college where I work did send around an email asking if we wanted one, but the vote was about evenly split, so...who know?

When I was in college in, you guessed it, Indiana, we had one every year, I think to coincide with Columbus Day.

We are in Western Kentucky. Our fall break this year is October 7 - 11. Last year it was the week of Columbus Day.

Didn't have a fall break when I was in school along time ago.

Minnesota checking in! We have what is called MEA (Minnesota Education Association) break usually the third Thursday and Friday of October. This is a chance for teachers to get additional training. Our school also takes Wednesday off so just leaves a couple days to pull kids out of school.
