Our boys think we are crazy packing so early, but little do they know that we are only 8 days away

What are packing cubes? The rooms are small so I can see how easy it would be to overpack. DCL says 2 bags each but where would you put them? Kids never get it. They get in the car and next thing they know, they're on the trip.

I love Chloe's curls though! They are gorgeous.

Keratin? I'm going to have to ask our stylist about that. Chloe's issue is that she doesn't want to spend the time it takes to do her hair. She doesn't frizz bad but she's too impatient to do the CurlyGirl process. We've tried so may different lines. Cheap and easy seem to be the best for her right now. I love when she lets me do her hair which is rarely. It's so fun to wrap around my fingers around pieces and make them into perfect spirals.

I decided not to go full CG, but we have switched to sulfate free shampoos and avoid most silicones. Shea butter is a good choice- moisture is key!
We got her the entire CG system for the holidays and she lasted about 2 weeks. She's got better things to do than her hair she says. We're using a shampoo now by Luxury. And then the Moroccan Oil. I'll have to check out the forums though. Maybe if she found other girls like her, she'd be more invested than having her old mom help her.

So right now DD is using Loreal EverCurl sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. At the end of the shower, work in a little bit of Suave Naturals conditioner as a leave in. Then dry with a tea towel or t-shirt instead of a regular terry towel (supposed to help frizz). Then she applies Curl Keeper and combs through with a wide tooth comb and air dry. Loreal Ever Curl also has a leave-in she will put in on occasion. On days she doesn't wash it, I spray it with a mixture of Suave Naturals cond and water as a detangler and comb with wide tooth comb again, finish spritzing with plain water. Garnier Fructic spray gel with shea also works for us.
We do the wide tooth comb and leave in conditioner too. See I can't comb hers the day after, it's a nest. She's got to roll up a huge bun, which is adorable, or wash it. I'm going to try the Loreal shampoo you're using, maybe that will help. The Luxury works well on mine but I have thin curly hair.

Quote:
Some people only comb in the shower with the conditioner in, instead of after, to encourage "clumping" but she didn't care for that.

Curly hair is a lot of work that's for sure and what works for one doesn't always work for the other. We need a curly hair support group.

Quote:
DD14 loves her curls, but I have to say hers are more easy-care- little tangling, and some mornings she barely has to do anything to it. DD11 is not as in love with hers- they can turn into a real rats nest, or get really big and frizzy, but when they are good, they are awesome! Her friend's mom straightened it for a dance this winter, and of course she got so much attention- because it was different- so she thinks straight hair would be nice. Honestly we all thought it was pretty blah and just not her

Chloe's curls sound like your younger DD's curls. If she works them right, they are amazing but if she doesn't, then they're not so great. Too much gel makes them look like speed bumps and gives her the triangle look, flat, but no frizz. Not enough and her hair grows 3x in size by the end of the day.

Quote:
She gets lots of compliments from strangers, and encouragement from me to embrace the curl. Of course she tells me that if she is supposed to be happy with her hair, I'm not supposed to complain about mine (which is more like naturally scraggly instead of naturally curly). I don't know if that's fair

I bet her hair is beautiful. Chloe has complete strangers touch her hair almost every time we go out, it's unreal. She doesn't enjoy it all. Now my oldest would love the attention but Chloe is much more reserved in some situations.

I don't like teen logic. I'm guilty of the same- lol! I complain that mines too thin but tell the kids to embrace what they've got. Too funny!

Re: next day hair- Have you tried having her sleep in a braid at night? That could keep it from tangling and make it so you can get throught it the next day. Or, do a pineapple (a ponytail clear on top of her head so that she's not laying on her hair). Some with longer hair put it up in the pineapple and then add more scrunchies periodically down the length of the hair so it is not free to tangle.

Re: touching- I've told my kids there are three things people think they can touch without asking- babies, pregnant bellies, and curly hair. (But I love to make her boings go boing!)

CG method can be as simple as she wants it to be. I know there are those out there who have a 2 hour/6+ product routine, but what I gathered is the main idea is to clarify once first, then from there on just co-wash (wash with conditioner and scrub good), and condition. Add leave-in product as desired. It can be done with cheap products like the Suave Naturals, so long as they don't have silicones. It doesn't have to take longer than a regular shampoo and conditioner routine (other than scrubbing the scalp a bit longer to insure cleanness). I would do it but my limp hair doesn't need that much conditioning. But for true curlies, it can work wonders. I've seen amazing before and after pics. DD14 doesn't do it because she has a tendency for oily scalp (but the sulfate free has helped that immensely), and I don't have DD11 do it in case she wouldn't scrub enough. Maybe when she's older. She's done it a couple of times.

Go to eBags and then search packing cubes. They are nylon bags that are about 3 inches deep and come in varying lengths and colors. There is a video on the site about them too. I had to talk DH into trying them and it was a bit of an investment but like I said as we are packing now both DH and I are so pleased with them. Check it out!

I have tried braiding it and then it's left with speed bumps. I'm going to try your deltangler idea. I've used deltangler but never watered down or mixed. She does a pineapple and wears it to school. A hair pineapple. I love it. We tried a new gel tonight and wowzers, her hair did well.ill post a pic when I can. She had her second solo, I'm just home taking a break. I can't do a full 9 hours of dance comps.

I told Chloe the same thing. Pregnant bellies and her hair seem to be a magnet to random touching. Is so bizarre to me as I'd never touch a strangers hair.

Our friends DD is a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, the one with the great curly hair, and she uses a 1/3 bottle a day to control her hair. Is gorgeous though and she's the one that led us to CG. I think when Chloe is older she'll find the patience to do her hair. I hope. There's not a straightener in the world that could control her hair. She's better off embracing it and learning to work with it than fight it her entire life. She does have to scrub her scalp like mad too. And rinse like crazy. Thank you for the tips.

Wow, those look cool but I don't see the video. How many bags did you need? That site is dangerous. I found a beautiful iPad bag too. I'm blaming you when DH sees the charge.

We got a package of 3 for DH and I, a 3 pack of the smalls for the boys as well as a 3 pack of the mediums for them, a 3 pack of the slim size and then an extra 3 pack of the smalls just in case. As far as the video goes, try and click one of the sets of packing cubes for a description and then on the left side of the screen are the click to enlarge pics, and there should be a "play triangle" to click on...if any of this makes any sense to you! We were rearranging some of our suitcases and it sure make it easy to shift things around. Watch the video!

I'll take the heat from your DH about any eBag bills and you take the heat from mine for the stay I'm going to book at the DLH

S.H.A.M.E. on me! (*hangs head in shame*)

I completely missed this TR!!! ...until now.

Great start and I was so pleased to find out you managed to hold on to the surprise hotel until the entrance! You must have got such a kick out of their reactions.

Sounds like we're in for 1 great TR of the 5 of you in 17 hours, at Club 33 and 1901 to boot!

Last I left you we were heading out of DCA and going over to Disneyland. We had a CM take this photo of us on the way out of DCA:

I got a glimpse of Buena Vista St. but that was it. Guess that's another reason to go back.

We hopped over to Disneyland and on the way we checked out all of the personalized bricks. Does anyone know who to contact to get one of those? Are they still selling them? Does anyone here have one and care to share the process?

Disneyland wasn't as crowded as I though it would be but wasn't as empty as I would have liked. Our first order of business was to grab FPs for Indy but not before we took in the sites and smells of Main St. Main St. is one of my favorite places to be together as a family. I just love it. It was then that Michael first brought up the possibility of getting APs. Our one day passes wouldn't apply towards the cost of an AP so I knew it wasn't something we needed to do that day. I explained to DH the AP process and told him we could buy vouchers and then activate them when we come back for Christmas. He asked: are we coming back for Christmas? I said: if we have APs we sure as heck are.

We grabbed our Indy FPs and while on the way to Riverbelle Terrace, saw that POTC was a walk on. How could we pass that up? For those of you who haven't been to Disneyland, go left in the POTC line. It is always shorter. Always. Last trip we split to see if I was correct and I was. Left baybee, always left.

POTC is one of my favorites. It looks like it went through a refurb recently. The scene after the drop, in the caverns, looked shinier, and the end where the wood is smoldering is different. The woods beams don't appear as if they are going to fall on you now. I'm talking about the part before the pirate shooting on the cannonball before you up the final hill. Can anyone confirm a recent refurb?

Johnny Depp is no dummy I tell you. How cool is he to be able to say he's got multiple animatronics of his charachter inside Disneyland?

On the way out I showed them all the secret buzzer for Club 33 (foreshadowing).....

Joshua wanted to buy the girls each a pin so while DH took him to the bathroom, wink wink, I took the girls into the crystal shop and showed them what I collected as a kid. Everytime my father would take me to Disneyland I'd get 2 things: a balloon and a little crystal trinket. Would I wouldn't have to have those now and to be able to share them with my kids.

I took couple of photos with my iPhone of the more upscale figures:

DS gave the girls their pins, he's such a sweet boy, and it was time for Riverbelle Terrace. We were famished. I didn't eat at the pastry cart. Disney does a lot right but I'm not a fan of their pastries that come from those carts. They're always dry and not worth the calories to me.

Riverbelle wasn't crowded so we grabbed our trays and ordered. For the for 5 of us we ordered the below with juices and decafs:

Mickey Mouse Pancakes - Our original Mickey Mouse shaped Pancakes... for the Child in all of us. $7.49

(2) Mark Twain - Scrambled Eggs, Country Style Potatoes, & Choice of Bacon or Sausage and a biscuit. $7.99

Steamboat - Three Fluffy Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Choice of Bacon or Sausage. $7.99

I didn't take a ton of photos this morning but how could we resist taking a photo of Chloe's Minnie Mouse pancake with a side of not great Disney bacon? Can they not do something about the quality of their bacon?

With full bellies, we decided to go on HM before Indy. I love the stretching room in the HM. DH says my favorite scene is the one where the woman has pictures with all of her dead husbands.

After HM we went on Indy standby. The line was minimal. We chatted. Every one was asking where we were going for dinner. I told them maybe Steakhouse 55, and maybe not but they would need to shower and get ready after a rest/swim at the hotel. They were all up for a nice meal. I couldnt be happier. I was also glad we had a hotel to go. Midday breaks are no longer an option for us, we have to have them.

Some queue pics:

Indy must have had a facelift too because WOW it was in fabulous shape, like brand new. We dug it! We enjoyed it so much we went on again using our FPs. Moving, moving, moving, stop. Indy went teets up. Because I'm a Pollyana and nothing ever really goes wrong in Disneyland we decided to take advantage of the stop and get a proper photo of the Eyeore parking sign that's still inside Indy from before it was built and the land was a parking lot. DH and I totally amused ourselves and the folks around us. Good times. Even the seemingly bummer moments turn out okay.

We were about 15 minutes into the wait and I saw this:

Pouty, spoiled babies.

The CM didnt have a strong enough flashlight so we turned the flash on the camera on and snapped the photo below. I'm quite proud of this photo. Indy ended up being down for 15 minutes so they had us all leave and gave us FPs for any ride, at anytime, inside Disneyland, for that day. They gave me one and DH one so we had two any ride FPs for the 5 of us. Those would come in handy later that night.

When we got out of Indy, I noticed the park starting to pack up. We had received the text that our room was ready and my crew was looking and feeling tired. We decided to head back for some downtime. We had a super neat meet planned with friends and then dinner with the 5 of us. I wanted us all rest and refreshed, or buzzed in DH's case (foreshadowing), for what was going to be an amazing night.

Up next: the Disneyland Hotel.......

No worries and I'm glad you're here.

Their reactions were those of tired kids we woke up at 5:30 am but once we got back that day, they were stoked. They were happy that morning but very fixated on getting to the park. They said they knew I'd figure out a way to give them a break that day without going back to my friend's house. Little beasts know me too well. I'll post more about their reaction in the next update.

It really was such a special day and I'm having so much fun reliving it. Thank you for reading and posting.

Sounds like a great plan. They'll both be grateful when their lives and wives reman happy. We're actually doing them favors when we share our helpful hints and photos. They should consider themselves lucky even.

When is your next trip to Disneyland? Are you going during your next cruise? The line is amazing. I should have taken more photos but it was literally a walk on. That morning was great but I like to move a little slower in general. There's always next time.

I also love the new Partners statue. I can't wait to go back and visit Buena Vista St. and take a big bite out of DCA.

I'm confused, they didn't give you 5 FPs?

I'm loving your storytelling! I hope those APs work out, that would be fantastic

They gave us 2 of these. I knew I took a picture but forgot to add it. They came in handy.

I'm hoping that Disneyland waits to increase their AP prices until I can find out if I can snag the GCV during the holidays. I'm not sure I want APs if we can't stay GCV this December. I know I can use points towards a standard room at either the GCH, DLH, or PPH but they're cost a lot more. In retrospect we really should have bought at the GCV instead of SSR. I didn't realize we'd be going to Disneyland so much. But if we bought at the GCV we wouldn't have got the THV at 7 months. I need a GCV add on in a bad way.

I'm glad you're enjoying the report.

Ahhh, that was really cool then. I thought it was super mean of them not to give everybody a FP.

Oh yes, I understand about add-ons. It gets in the bloodstream and doesn't let go. Best not to fight these things

Another great update. Such a shame Indy was down but those instant FPs are rather handy!

Looking forward to your next update.

When I'd go with the band as a teen, they'd drill it into our heads every time: The bus is parked in E for Eeyore. So it has even more meaning to me.

Now I need to go back (with my AP!) so I can see it!

Oh yes, I understand about add-ons. It gets in the bloodstream and doesn't let go. Best not to fight these things

Hahaha! Can you imagine: you get a FP and you don't. They did come in handy for sure.

I've been looking at resales for the GCV but I'm not loving all of the restrictions. I think 100 points would be perfect. My Disney Visa is screaming at me to put down the $1,000 6 months, zero interest down payment. Maybe I'll call our guide. I know the GCV have a one bedroom and 2 bedroom for our dates right now but at 7 months or any day before, things can change. I don't want to add on unless our guide can secure us a reservation for our dates and I have no idea if that's possible.

It was actually kind of fun to be able to get that photo as silly as it sounds. I've wanted it forever and the minute we got stuck DH took out the camera. We got stuck right where we could take the photo. Fate?

You're very welcome. I was so happy when I saw how well it turned out. My geek flag was flying high. I'd seen it twice before but could never break out the camera and take a pic without bugging everyone. It was perfect timing and we were in the perfect spot. And we got FPs. Bonus! We were actually standing around the corner and DH took it through the break in the walls right behind the screen.

Here's my AP dilemma. We'd need Premieres which are each $200 more than Deluxe. The days of our girls missing school are long gone. They're gone because they are slackers who have proven they cannot keep up. DS is fine missing school but the girls have DH's studying habits. Lol! Anyway, we'd have to go during peak times which isn't the end of the world as we'd have more days. If we get APs we'd go this Christmas, Spring Break 2014, summer, and in mid October 2014 or there about.
