Phew. My other niece is safe. She was about 1/2 a mile away when the blast went off.

That is my thinking too. I think it was mile marker 26 was dedicated to the victims, not really the 26th mile. Not that that really matters but I think it was just a coincidence.

It is a big event that is by design open for spectators (and anyone else) to come in and out, gets lots of international news coverage, is part of a long standing American tradition, and is part of a bigger celebration (Patriot's Day).

I do keep hearing about additional devices and the speculation about the smoke and what it means but, quite frankly, I no longer believe the media right after events like this. As they have proven time and time again, and even more so with the Sandy Hook reporting, they just spew everything they hear without any regard for the truth.

In a few days we'll know more about the incident, right now I just hope there is nothing else waiting to go off and they can minimize the damage.

UGH - I pray for all of those that were hurt and the safety of all those nearby. So terrible.
Thank goodness they found it. Some people are so "words I can't say here!".

Martha Raddatz seems near tears while reporting. So tragic.

The third explosion was a water cannon, and they announced it would be going off. Not sure why it was set off. WBZ just reported 2 dead, 22 injured, although from what a local nurse just said, I would think the injured count will be higher.

It's spring break week for kids here in MA, today is Patriot's Day ... so thankful that my family are here at home safe. Sad and scared as I watch the news.

I did not mean to imply a connection between this and Newtown, I was commenting how sad that something like this happened at an event that was in part dedicated to that tragedy.

Just an awful day

My thoughts are with all involved.

We loved Boston, just sick over this, and "sick of" these disgusting acts.

As horrible as it is in Boston, I just hope it's isolated...thoughts going out to all suffering or worrying about loved ones.
