Using Dining Credits..a Question

If a family of four has the DDP but has a child who is 10 and won't eat an adult portion and/or only eats 'kid food,' can the following be done?

3 family members order off the adult menu and use DDP credits
The 10 year old orders off the kid menu and the parents pay cash

If it's done that way, the family will end up being able to book more table credits using their DDP credits, because they are paying cash for one person at each meal.

Is this do-able? Is it allowed?

Yes that can be done - just make it clear when ordering that you want to pay the meal of 10 year old OOP. The only time it would be different would be TS buffets where 10 year old would need to pay adult price. I've got the opposite problem an 8 year old who normally eats adult meals - have tried to upgrade but been told no.

You can upgrade the kid to age 10 unless you're from the UK - for some reason UK guests have a lot more problems with this.

The problem with it is that the child is considered 10 for the entire trip. On a package with tickets you need to buy adult tickets for him or her. If you're attending a lot of buffets then you probably should leave your under 10 year old as a child.

Yes, you can pay cash for the child's meal at a la carte restaurants and save the adult credits for later use. There's no practical reason to do so at buffets, all you can eat family style or fixed price restaurants as a 10 year old will pay the adult price anyway at all of these.

Some TS restaurants offer larger portions of kid's meals. We did this with my DD when she turned 10. The larger portions will use an Adult credit.
