Kona Island Sushi Bar

I was so happy to hear that you can order off the Knoa Island Sushi Bar menu at Kona cafe! My wife is not a sushi fan but I love it, so she can order a steak or something off the cafe menu when we are there in July. Does anyone have any favoriate rolls that they enjoyed at the sushi bar? I want to make sure I try the best! Thanks.

It's been awhile since I've eaten there, but their Volcano roll was always my favorite! Like you, it's the perfect solution for us since my husband doesn't eat seafood.

That's good to know
We have already booked Kona cafe for lunch. How would it work if we are on the deluxe dining plan? Can we order the sushi from the Knoa Island Sush Bar as appetiser or main course?

We love the sushi at Kona!! We've been a few times - can't remember the rolls we've had (tried quite a few) and loved them all.

A few years ago we tried to get a walk-in to Ohana with no success. We were able to get right into the Kona Cafe and it was the best meal we had all trip. The sushi was awesome!

I thought I read on boards that Sushi Bar now gets sushi made in the Kona Café kitchen ie you can order at bar but sushi is no longer made in front of you. Is this true?

I also like the Volcano Roll.

I'm pretty sure they are still rolling sushi in the Sushi Bar area, because on busy nights it takes about 30-45 minutes to get a sushi order. If it was coming from the kitchen, all the food would come out together. So if you ordered sushi and DW ordered off the menu, she may be eating her dinner before you get yours. I'd try not to book a Friday or Saturday night, it's crazy busy.

Yes it's true.

Since they moved the sushi prep to the dessert prep area the sushi is now flying out. They have so much more room to work. Orders that have both sushi and regular items are now being served at the same time

As of now sushi is only being served at night. This could change at any time, they did a test this week for 3 days and it sold well at lunch. On the deluxe plan you can get 1 roll as an app, and 1 as an entree

Thanks for the info!

I will keep an eye for the lunch menu from now on and may have to change my ADR to a dinner if sushi is not available for lunch by Sept. We love sushi and is a shame that CG hasn't got an official opening date yet because we would love to try the sushi there as well.

Yes, they are no longer making sushi at the sushi bar, it is now being made back in Kona Cafe. The waiter told me it was due to high demand of sushi orders from the bar and Kona Cafe. The two people that could "roll" at the bar were getting over-loaded. My two fav. things to order is the Volcano Roll & Tuna Poke I would highly suggest the Tuna Poke, its amazing. I will try and locate a picture of it!
