First Trip with Our Almost 5 Year Old ...

We are staying two nights at The Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is a very short trip and we are only spending one day at AK. Is there any Disney restaurant experience that is a must for dinner for a little boy? He loves dinosaurs and animals but also enjoys Disney characters he watches on Disney Junior.

Thanks!
Jen

T-Rex at Downtown Disney is probably the best place I could think of for a boy. Dinosaurs galore. Hollywood and Vine at Hollywood Studios has the Disney Jr characters for breakfast and lunch, but with that short of a trip I don't know if that is possible for you. I'm assuming that you are spending one day at AK and not going to any other parks.

Probably should have mentioned I'm from Kansas City and we have a T Rex, although it's completely on the other side of the metro so I may still consider the Disney location.

With such a short time at WDW, I would consider Rainforest Cafe or Tusker house while you are at AK.

If you can't go to HS to go to the Hollywood and Vine Disney Jr. meal, then I would suggest Tusker House at AK.

I'd suggest Tusker House for Breakfast or Lunch to get some characters in the mix on your AK day. I like lunch better than breakfast at TH, but breakfast can get you into the park before rope drop, which can be a fun plus.

I'd suggest one dinner at Sanaa over in Kidani Village, where you can see animals outside the windows. If you make it on the early side, there should be plenty of light for watching the animals. It's a good dinner for the AK day because the park closes early.

Tusker House is great for boys! The Fab Five in safari costumes make for great pictures and, bonus, it's definitely one of the better, if not the best, buffet breakfast on property!

Thanks everyone!

What about Tusker House for dinner? We are doing the Sunrise Breakfast Safari one of the two days.

Btw, anyone familiar with the offerings in the club lounge at the AKL?

Tusker House only has characters at breakfast and lunch.

They are pretty good. It involves mostly snack-y stuff and drinks, but in the evenings they have some slightly heartier fare. More appetizer than entrée, though, still. We mostly ate stuff for breakfast there, and then went back in the evenings. They had fresh fruit, quinoa, I think some oatmeal, and pastries and breads at breakfast.

I was more beverage-focused in the evenings, but I recall some cheese out at some point, along with hummus, and breads.

Since you will only be in the parks 1 day, perhaps you want a meal outside the parks, so as not to cut into your time....1900 Park Faire breakfast is a nice option because it gives you face characters that you can converse with (Alice, Mad Hatter, and Mary Poppins) as well as costumed characters (tigger and Pooh.) Since some children are wary of costumed characters, it is nice to have both, and tIGGER IS GENERALLY VERY BOUNCY, AND LOVES TO ENGAGE THE LITTLE ONES.

The most convienient place would be RFC. Not dinos but plenty of animals! And easy to get to and from AKL!

You could do a late lunch at Tusker House and still have the characters!
