Arriving at the port at 9:30?

If I arrive at the port at 9:30, is it possible to drop off wife and kid somewhere to wait until the port opens, while I return the rental car? I'm hoping to get on the first rental car shuttle back to the port.

Is there a place to wait outside, in the shade?

Has anyone actually tried to arrive this early? Would it be better to arrive at just before 11?

They usually won't even let you in the area at that time. People will still be there getting off the previous cruise and waiting for their transportation to pick them up. Better to arrive after 10:30/10:45.

No.

You are better off waiting down A1A at McDonald's or somewhere.
No way the port will let you in at 9:30. Folks are still debarking/clearing from the previous sailing. The port officially doesn't open till 11am.
Some can get in at 10:30, usually those are platinum and concierge.

Wait till 11am to approach the port. IMO.

We arrived at 10:15 a couple of weeks ago. DH dropped me and the kids off by the curb and went to park the car. There was already probably 30/40 people waiting around outside.
I remembered someone talking about them opening up the garage entrance first sometimes, so we headed up to the parking garage entrance and there was a line of another 25/30 people in front of us. We waited in the garage line for about 15 minutes, and then they let us walk across the walkway, and we waited there for a little while longer before we went inside.

Shhh !!

This must have been a dream as the port doesn't open until 11am.

Few cars are allowed in prior to 11am.

Please space out the arrivals.

Yeah, I am not trying to beat anyone either but we drive all night long to get there and always end up early. We went and had breakfast at iHop.

Actually, your PAT "window" is 11:00am - 11:30am. PPs are correct in reporting that the port does not officially open until 11:00am and there is strong chance that you will not be allowed entrance even to the parking garage as early as 9:30. Arriving closer to 10:15-10:30 with an 11-11:30am PAT will greatly cut down on your waiting time. There are reports of people being allowed into the terminal as early as 10:15 but consensus seems to be closer to 10:45am. Chances are the rental car shuttle won't return you until closer to 11:00am anyway - we waited at the rental agency for an hour because we had to return the car earlier that morning (within 24 hours so as not to be charged extra). You are not likely to "start the whole process" as you say until close to 11am. Just trying to help you avoid too much waiting as there isn't a place to sit and your family be outside or in the parking garage and you could be waiting at the rental agency...or all together out on the road circling if you arrive too soon.

Enjoy your cruise!

From what I've read 10:45 is the earliest you can count on. They usually don't start boarding until 11:45. The first group will be Concierge then Platinum cruisers. Then your boarding number is tied to your PAT (port arrival time). So if you have the earliest PAT the earliest you will be able to board is 11:55ish. The point of this long story is even if he drops you off between 10:45 and 11:00 he will have plenty of time to make it back to the port before you will be able to board. One more suggestion if for any reason the line to get on the shuttle back to the port is long have him call a cab, others have posted that it is just a few dollars.

Be sure to sign up for your PAT as soon as you can. 1st time cruisers can sign up 75 days prior to your cruise. Again from what I've read here you should not have a problem getting the earliest PAT of 11:00-11:30.

Have a great cruise.

Oops one more thing there are restrooms available in the parking garage if the terminal isn't open quite yet when you drop off.

What's lost if you get there early and they won't let you in? Nothing. Circle around and go to one of the restaurants or McD's or just drive over to the jetty and look around. Then try again in 45 minutes.

Or, if you are really early, go return the car with everyone and take the shuttle back. If you are truly too early, you should be the only family at the car return (doubt it) so the shuttle should have room.

Actually, if you are really early at the car rental they won't even put you on a shuttle. They'll still be shuttling returning passengers off the ship. The shuttles aren't allowed at drop-off until a certain time. We had to wait at the rental agency for about an hour (we knew we were early) before the first shuttle would take us to port. So there is possibility that if the PP was allowed to drop-off the rest of his family early, he may not be able to join them at port until closer to 10:45am - and if the family has gotten in line they'd have to meet up inside the terminal.

If you can't get in till 10:30 or 11. Instead of waiting for you to come back for the whole process to begin why not after you drop off family and luggage which the porters will take care of, let your wife check you in with all the proper documentation such as passport then by the time you come back your are all checked in and can board the ship. You just need your license to get into terminal. At that time of day you may have a long wait at car rental office for the shuttle.

Your wife can start/do the check-in process while you return the car. She will need the paperwork, credit card, passports (or birth certificates). You will need an ID to get into the port (drivers licence) and maybe a credit card to return the car. When you arrive the only thing you will need to do is have your picture taken.

When you drop off the family you can drop off the luggage at the same time. Make sure you have all the paperwork you need in a carry on bag (not packed) and the luggage tags on the bags. Disney will mail you the tags a few weeks before the cruise. You will pull up in front of the port the porters will take the bags. Once the terminal opens your wife and child can go inside and start the check in process.

You may also want to have swim suites in the carry on bag you won't be able to get into your cabin until after 1:30 and your luggage may not get to your cabin till late in the day.
